IMG Lacrosse Academy Tabs Northwestern Alum as Inaugural Head Girls Coach

BRADENTON, Fla. (May, 2010) – Already directed by an eight-time world champion, the IMG Lacrosse Academy today announced another multiple-championship winner as the Head Girls Lacrosse Coach.

Starting today, Aly Josephs, a member of one of the top collegiate women’s lacrosse teams of all time, will lead the girls’ program of the IMG Lacrosse Academy, which was launched in February.

“We are extremely excited to have Aly Josephs join the IMG Lacrosse Academy,” said Kevin Finneran, IMG Lacrosse Academy director and an eight-time Major League Lacrosse and National Lacrosse League champion. “Coach Josephs has the leadership, experience and passion to build the program from the ground up. She comes from one of the best programs in the nation in Northwestern University and will bring that winning attitude to Bradenton.”

Coming from San Diego, where she coached Scripps Ranch High School and founded/directed the San Diego Wildcats Lacrosse Club, Josephs possesses a strong coaching and playing background. While at Northwestern, Josephs won three NCAA titles and finished her career ranked No. 4 on the school’s all-time scoring list with 187 goals. Her 37 career NCAA championship goals rank No. 2 in collegiate women’s lacrosse history.

“I am thrilled to join Coach Finneran at IMG Academies to help advance the sport of women’s lacrosse,” said Josephs. “The unmatched reputation of IMG Academies, coupled with the knowledgeable staff and world-class facilities, leave no question that the IMG Lacrosse Academy will experience the same success and growth as the other sports and become a premier destination for women’s lacrosse student-athletes.”

According to multiple studies, lacrosse represents the fastest-growing youth sport over the last 10 years, increasing by more than 500 percent to nearly 250,000 participants since 1999.
