Kelly Barnes Joins STX Elite Women’s Lacrosse Team

Baltimore, MD – Baltimore-based STX, LLC, a global sporting goods leader, today announced that former Team USA defender Kelly Barnes has joined Team STX, the first elite post-collegiate women’s lacrosse team.

Barnes, an assistant coach at Saint Joseph’s University, will compete with Team STX in women’s tournaments this summer and take part in youth clinics led by Team STX.

A two-time captain for the Georgetown women’s lacrosse team, Barnes has received numerous honors, including being named the 2008-09 Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year and earning the 2009-10 Georgetown Denis Kanach Hoya award. The four-year varsity letter winner also earned IWLCA Regional All-American honors and All-Big East First Team honors twice each. Barnes was a two-time nominee for the Tewaaraton Watch List and received the 2012 Aimee Willard Award, presented to the top collegiate player at U.S. Lacrosse National Team tryouts.

Additionally, Barnes co-founded and currently coaches the Philly Gamers, a girl’s team that builds fundamental skills for youth players.

Barnes joins team captain Josie Owen, Kitty Cullen, and Sam Farrell along with 12 other players from last year’s inaugural team.

“Last year, Team STX surpassed the competition in summer lacrosse tournaments and with the addition of new recruits like Kelly, we’re poised to do the same this year,” said Kadie Stamper, Women’s Lacrosse Category Brand Manager. “As a competitive athlete and impactful defender, we are very excited that Kelly has joined Team STX. Her work spreading the word about lacrosse and teaching younger players makes her a great addition to this year’s team.”

In its inaugural season, Team STX took home gold at the Vail Shootout Elite Championship and in the Ocean City Lacrosse Classic during the Women’s Elite final. Several team athletes were also featured in STX marketing materials, such as the 4Sight Form video.

STX will be recruiting additional new members to join the team later this spring by invitation. To learn more about Team STX, please visit http://stx.com/teamstx2014.
