EASTON, Pa. – Lafayette men’s lacrosse sophomore Erik Cannon (Ridgewood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, the League announced on Monday, after helping the Leopards to a pair of wins.

“This is a well-deserved honor for Erik,” head coach Jim Rogalski said. “He has become the leader of our defense and had a great game against Holy Cross this past weekend.”

The Ridgewood, N.J. native had a career-high six caused turnovers in Lafayette’s Patriot League win over Holy Cross on Saturday. He also grabbed five ground balls in the game. On Tuesday night, the sophomore caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

Cannon leads the nation this season, causing 2.45 turnovers per game. He was part of a defensive unit that allowed 7.0 goals per game in victories of Holy Cross and Monmouth. For the season, Cannon leads the team with 27 caused turnovers and 49 ground balls.

The Leopards are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Monmouth at 7:30 p.m. at Fisher Stadium.
