BOSTON, Mass.– Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Tuesday that defenseman Lee Zink of the Denver Outlawshas been named as the 2012 Warrior MLL Defensive Player of the Year, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. The award was based on the votes submitted by the head coach and general manager of each of the League’s eight teams.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by former players, coaches and GMs. I’ve been really excited about this season; we have a great team and I’m excited about the upcoming weekend,” says Zink.

A nine-year MLL veteran, Zink played in 13 games while helping the Denver Outlaws claim their first MLL regular season title since 2009. He recorded 17 ground balls, including a season-high three ground balls in a win over Rochester on June 16.

Zink has played in 103 career games and has recorded 211 ground balls. He helped the Baltimore Bayhawks win the 2005 MLL Championship and has played in 12 or more regular season games in six of his nine seasons.

“Warrior is proud to present MLL veteran Lee Zink with the well deserved honor of Defensive Player of the Year,” said Dave Dixon, Warrior Chief Marketing Officer. “Lee continues to be a defensive stalwart in MLL and his efforts on the field are admired by all of us at Warrior.”

The MLL Championship Weekend presented by Warrior will be held on August 25 and 26 at Harvard Stadium. The top-seeded Denver Outlaws will face the fourth-seeded Long Island Lizards in the first semi-final at 1 p.m. before the second-seeded Chesapeake Bayhawks will play against the defending MLL champion Boston Cannons, who earned the third seed, in the second semi-final at approximately 4 p.m.
