Mike Morris Takes Another SSC Weekly Honor

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Mike Morris (Jr., Oakville, Ontario) of the University of Tampa is the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year.

Jake Hogan (Fr., Westwood, Mass.) of Rollins College was named the SSC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the first time.

Morris and Hogan were selected SSC Athletes of the Week from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 23-29.

Morris wins his second award of the 2015 season after helping Tampa go 2-0 last week, including one win against conference opponent Saint Leo. In the Spartans first game against Adams State, Morris scored one goal on seven shots and added two assists as Tampa went on to win, 15-3. Against Saint Leo, Morris scored four goals on eight shots, the last of which was the game winner in the 10-9 victory. He also added an assist in the game that pushed Tampa’s conference record to 2-0.

In just his second career start, Hogan was huge for the Tars in net in a game against conference foe and No. 12 ranked Florida Tech last week. In the game, the freshman had a career high 19 saves for Rollins and surrendered just six goals. Of the 25 shots he faced, Hogan was able to save 76 percent to help Rollins get their first conference win of the season. The 9-6 win over the Panthers also moved their overall record to 5-7 this year.
