Morgan State Men’s Lacrosse Player Blog: Way More Than a Game

The 2012 season is here and we wanted to work closely with college programs to bring a part of the excitement to you. Throughout the 2012 season we will highlight lacrosse programs on our space for all of our readers to follow. Player blogs serve as a unique outlet for programs to showcase their season as it develops, plus highlight everything they have to offer a student-athlete. In contrast, families and fans get a glimpse into the program’s athletic and academic regimen.

The first year I played at Morgan I had no idea who we had on our schedule, but a large part of the team was upset that we weren’t playing Howard. I didn’t understand at first until it got through my head what a big deal it is to lax at an HBCU. I didn’t know any specifics other than the fact that they usually played Howard but this year we weren’t. We played in a pickup game were we invited some of the people who had played for Howard to come run with us. They were some pretty cool guys and we all played together like we had all been on the same team for years.

My sophomore year we finally got to play that game we were looking forward to. It was just as big as it had been hyped up to be. A physical Showcase of the only two teams in HBCU lax at the time; it was one of my most memorable games here. Later that year we got the permission to host Howard in our stadium and they brought it to us. We just got away with that win.

This year it won’t be that close.

The Team and I can’t wait until Saturday. This is one of the biggest games of the season. Well every game is a big game but, this is one we especially look forward to. We have a lot of respect for Howard as a team but this our rivalry game. It almost has a Baltimore Ravens, Washington redskins feel to it. It’s fun to watch the newcomers to the team show the same excitement and attitude that I did my first time playing Howard. This is more than a game but also a showcase of HBCU lacrosse talent that is often overlooked or forgotten about. This is also big for the game of lacrosse itself. Lacrosse is becoming a more diverse sport and where better than to put that on display than Morgan State

The game is Saturday March 31st at 2pm in Hughes stadium on Morgan’s Campus. We want the Stadium to rock so we can show everybody how HBCU lacrosse gets down.
