Stevenson, MD – After 16 years of diverse logos representing Mustangs athletics, Stevenson University is proud to reveal a new logo system that celebrates the hard-charging spirit of the Mustangs while giving their 20 intercollegiate NCAA Division III athletic teams a professional look. Developed in consultation with Bob Leffler of The Leffler Agency-one of the area’s foremost sports marketing firms-the new logo was unveiled August 12 during the first practice of Stevenson’s new football team.
“We are very excited to see this new logo system in place for the beginning of our 2010-11 seasons,” said Brett Adams, Director of Athletics. “The bold new Mustangs image and stylized ‘S’ convey the winning drive of our men’s and women’s teams and the momentum of Stevenson University athletics as a whole.”
Stevenson has witnessed tremendous growth over the past decade, building a new campus in Owings Mills, purchasing and upgrading the former Colts/Ravens training complex, announcing a name change and university status in 2008, and increasing its undergraduate population to a historic high of 3,000 undergraduate students.
Mustangs athletics has kept the pace with these rapid changes. The University has grown from offering 11 sports in its inaugural year of NCAA membership in 1995 to 20 intercollegiate sports for men and women today, boasting nationally-ranked men’s and women’s lacrosse teams and now football. With the start of its fall 2010 semester, the University is opening a new 60,000-square-foot gymnasium on it Owings Mills campus and has begun planning for new 3,500-seat stadium to complement it.
The Mustangs compete as a member of the Capital Athletic Conference with the exception of men’s volleyball which competes in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association and football which begins play in the Middle Atlantic Conference in fall 2011.
