Rapper w/ Lacrosse Roots Is Changing the Game with Highly Anticipated CD “Hot Chicks and Lacrosse Sticks”

Yesterday, we asked fans on Facebook about how lacrosse can receive more notoriety on an international scale. Many people said there needs to be more TV coverage, cheaper equipment and a few people touched on slipping lacrosse into pop culture, but nothing really specific. The one element no one mentioned…MUSIC. What Pharrell did for skateboarding we believe Meechie Nelson can do for lacrosse. Which is provide more exposure and take the sport into places it has never been before and hopefully he can take his music to the next level through lacrosse.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Demetrious Nelson was raised with his two older brothers Dee and Deontae by a single-parent mother Tajjah Nelson. After moving to Westerville, the suburbs of Columbus, at the age of five, Demetrious, better known as Meechie, explored many different avenues. While spending most of his adolescence with his two older brothers, which whom he was highly influenced by, Meechie took not only their advice but picked up the sport of lacrosse. Meechie went on to excel in the sport of lacrosse. Attackman of the year his Junior season in High School, All-American Senior year and was a four-time First-Team-All-State award winner.

As a joke, while in high school, a couple of Meechie’s best friends began free styling in the basement of his mother’s house. After the session ended, Deontae, Meechie’s brother approached him with a more than joking demeanor. “You have talent. Take this rap thing serious,” Meechie recalls Deontae saying to him. Although it was never his intention, Meechie began pondering the idea of a rap career. Fast forward to now this All-American lacrosse player has set his goals high and is ready to explode on the rap scene.

Meechie’s lyrics encompass a double-consciousness. In essence, lacrosse and street life are deeply intertwined. He opens people up to lacrosse who might not be familiar with it. He also sheds light on his experiences and background outside of lacrosse. He isn’t hiding from who he truly is and he isn’t scared to show the world either. His music has already been featured in College Lacrosse 2011 which has won world acclaim. As mentioned in the video interview Meechie’s next CD is entitled “Hot Chicks and Lacrosse Sticks” (set to drop in September). Meechie is more than just an athlete that raps he is a pioneer for lacrosse.
