Romeo, Todd Lead Harvard Women’s Lacrosse Past Holy Cross, 12-4

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Marisa Romeo scored four times and added an assist, while Audrey Todd net three goals to propel the Harvard women’s lacrosse team to a 12-4 victory over Holy Cross Tuesday evening.

Julia Glynn also added two goals and an assist for Harvard, which improves to 6-6 overall on the season. Kelly Weis started in net and made two saves to pick up the victory, and Alexis Nicolia paced the team with three draw controls. Emma Ford collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Holy Cross (4-12) was led by Avery Giorgio, who scored twice, and goalie Katie Boyle, who recorded five saves.

The Crimson scored the first eight goals of the game to take a commanding lead by 12:13 of the first half. Todd opened the scoring at 24:38, and Romeo struck three straight times at 20:53, 19:49 and 18:20 to make it 5-0. After Todd found the back of the net on consecutive shots at 15:14 and 13:23, Romeo gave Harvard an 8-0 edge with 12 minutes to play in the stanza.

After the Crusaders finally got on the scoreboard on a tally by Kaitlin Concilio at 9:16, Harvard’s Glynn (7:29) and Caroline Ashford (5:25) made it 10-1 entering halftime.

In the second half, Nekele McCall and Glynn scored at 25:24 and 21:46, respectively, but the Crusaders outscored the Crimson, 3-2, in the frame.

For the game, the Crimson was 15-of-16 on clear attempts and led in shots, 20-7. The Crusaders had a slight edge in ground balls, 15-14, and draw controls were even, 9-9.

Harvard will visit Cornell in a key Ivy League contest Saturday April 18 at 1 p.m.
