Rutgers Men’s Lacrosse Names 2012 Captains

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 20, 2011) –Rutgers men’s lacrosse head coach Brian Brecht has named the Scarlet Knights’ team captains for the 2012 season. The newly appointed captains are Jacob Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md.), Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.), Zachary Zenda (Monmouth Jct., N.J.) and Nicholas Zerrillo (Brewerton, N.Y.). The RU squad’s leading foursome is a group of seniors who together have amassed 134 career game appearances.

“After going through our fall practices, I am excited to have these four student-athletes lead our program as captains through the 2012 season,” Brecht said. “Our senior class has been very impressive as leaders both on and off the field. Jacob Fradkin, Will Mangan, Zachary Zenda and Nicholas Zerrillo have been extraordinary with the way they have conducted themselves as true student-athletes.

“I am confident they will lead this current team and continue the proud tradition of Rutgers lacrosse, embracing the core values of our campus community.”

Fradkin showed a nose for the ball in 2011, causing 19 turnovers while starting all 15 contests for Rutgers. A defenseman, he has been a staple in RU’s lineup, notching 14 starts as a sophomore in 2010 and 13 starts as a freshman in 2009.

Mangan started in all 15 games for the Scarlet Knights last season, scoring 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) to rank third on the team. A midfielder, he also showed his ability to corral the ball by scooping 49 ground balls.

Zenda saw action in 14 games for RU in 2011. The midfielder caused seven turnovers and scooped four ground balls on the year.

Zerrillo, a midfielder, scored seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) in 13 appearances for the Scarlet Knights in 2011.
