Rutgers Men’s Lacrosse Begins Practice for 2012 Season

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team has entered into its first week of official practices in preparation for the 2012 season and the initial campaign of head coach Brian Brecht’s tenure “On the Banks.” Brecht commented on the squad’s first week of practices, noting the excitement and passion exhibited by the Scarlet Knights.

“It was great welcoming the team back and starting up this past weekend, the start of the season always comes with great enthusiasm,” Brecht said. “We have been concentrating on a lot of stick work and skill development and building on each practice. It is very encouraging. I thought yesterday’s practice might have been the best day I’ve had here at Rutgers University, and they backed it up again today. Hopefully we can continue that throughout the rest of the week.”

Brecht pointed out that the team went right to work, executing two-a-day workouts to begin their practice schedule.

“We finished up with a couple days of doubles,” Brecht said. “We’ve done a lot of individual skill development the first morning session and a lot of teaching of things we’d like to introduce and incorporate early on in the season during the afternoon session.”

The Scarlet Knights begin their schedule on the road at Duke on Feb. 11. The visit to Durham, N.C., matches Rutgers against a squad that advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in 2011. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
