Spring Classic Matchup: #14 Georgetown Prep vs #18 Gilman

Lacrosse Playground is proud to announce its second annual event, LacrossePlayground.com Spring Classic 2013. The 2013 event will be held in Johnny Unitas Stadium on Towson University’s campus in Towson, Maryland. The remarkable venue will host three high-action high school boy’s lacrosse games. Today, we take a closer look at one of the highly anticipated matchups, Georgetown Prep vs Gilman. Georgetown Prep and Gilman are currently ranked 14 and 18 respectfully in the Under Armour High School Power Rankings.

Gilman and Georgetown Prep have played every year for at least the last 10 years. During that time, Gilman has won 2 MIAA championships and been in the MIAA Semifinals every year except one. Georgetown Prep has won even more than that in terms of IAC championships. In addition, over the last 7 games, Prep has won four and Gilman has won 3, and the goal differential in those 7 games is a total of 3. Last year, Gilman won at Prep, 7-6 in 2 OTs. That speaks to the very special nature of this inter-league rivalry.

Gilman Head Coach Brooks Matthews:

Each year we look forward to playing Georgetown Prep because it is an excellent gauge of our team’s early season progress. It prepares us for the kind of competition we face in the MIAA because Prep is consistently well-coached and exceptional in the talent and effort they put on the field every year. I am very excited for our two teams to play this cross-league rivalry in the atmosphere that the Spring Classic affords, and certainly, for the last decade, this game has fit the definition of a classic.

Gilman Key Players To Watch:
– Junior, Chase Campbell, Defense, Virginia
– Junior, Tyler Ruhl, Attack, Notre Dame
– Max Greene, Attack, Harvard
– William McBride, Midfield, North Carolina

Landon Assistant Coach J.R. Bordley on Georgetown Prep:

Georgetown Prep is always dangerous. They are well coached and they are athletic. They are good where you need to be good…in the goal and at the faceoff X. Railey returns for year #2 as he is one of the top goalies in the city and Jack Olson is a talented faceoff man. They have some bruising middies led by the Collins boy. They should be tough this spring.

Georgetown Prep Key Players To Watch:
– Junior Goalie – Will Railey (UVA)
– Junior Midfield – Brendan Collins (Notre Dame)
– Junior Midfield – Townsend Brown (UVA)
– Senior Attack – Bear Altemus (Princeton)
– Sophomore Midfield – Jack Olson (Johns Hopkins )

Gilman and Georgetown Prep are scheduled to play at 8 pm, March 22nd. For more information click Spring Classic
