OWINGS MILLS, Md – Stevenson University will host the 2012 Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic Sunday, October 21 at 10 a.m. at Mustang Stadium on the Owings Mills campus to help raise funds for the Meghan Puls Foundation. The classic will feature five teams, including Stevenson, Franklin & Marshall, Virginia Wesleyan, Goucher and Elizabethtown.

The mission of the foundation is to keep the memory of Meghan Puls, who died from injuries suffered in a car accident in 2001, and daughter of Stevenson assistant men’s lacrosse coach, Tim and Stevenson volunteer assistant women’s basketball coach, Cassie, alive by helping families and children through supporting organizations in the areas of health services and research, youth recreation and education. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Lions Camp Merrick diabetes camp. Other beneficiaries include The Seton Keough High School Scholarship, Marillac and Focus programs. Admission is FREE, but a suggested donation of $5 is encouraged. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Anyone interested should contact Tim Puls at [email protected] for more information.

“The Meghan Puls Foundation would like to thank Stevenson men’s head lacrosse coach Paul Cantabene for helping to facilitate this charitable event. We are looking forward to having an exciting day of lacrosse in the fabulous new Mustang Stadium and raising funds for families and children who are in need of this support,” said Meghan Puls Foundation President Cassie Puls.

Stevenson (18-5) finished the 2012 season one win shy of the school record for wins in a season set in 2010 while making their third semifinal appearances in four NCAA tournament berths from 2009-12. Franklin & Marshall ended 2012 with a 10-5 record, the first 10 win season since 2003. Virginia Wesleyan posted a 10-7 overall mark in 2012 and advanced to the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Goucher 18-2, set a new school record for most wins, and recorded its inaugural NCAA Division III postseason tournament victory. Elizabethtown closed its 2012 campaign with a 7-8 mark.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
