Stony Brook Names Team Captains for 2012

Stony Brook, N.Y. (Jan. 4, 2012) – Stony Brook head coach Jim Nagle announced his captains for the 2012 season Wednesday. Seniors Kyle Belton (Langley, British Columbia), Robbie Campbell (Delta, British Columbia) and Kyle Moeller (South Setauket, N.Y.) have been chosen by Nagle to lead the Seawolves this season.

“Part of my criteria for picking captains is choosing well-rounded people,” said Nagle, who’s in his first year at Stony Brook. “These three student-athletes excelled in the classroom during the fall, and I hope our underclassmen will look up to each of these guys as the example of a Stony Brook student-athlete.”

Belton, a business management major who attained a 3.22 GPA in the fall, has played in 41 career games, totaling 45 goals and nine assists. As a sophomore, he registered 23 goals, including three in the NCAA Tournament. He’s scored four goals in a game four times in his career, and has 13 multi-goal games to his credit.

An All-America East selection in 2011, Campbell is the team’s returning leading scorer. He scored 17 goals and added 10 assists for the Seawolves, who advanced to their third straight America East title in 2011. He tallied a career-high four goals, all in the fourth quarter, in a 10-8, come-from-behind victory over Hartford in the regular season. A business management and economics major, Campbell earned a 3.17 fall GPA.

Moeller, a business management major with a 3.89 fall GPA, earned All-America East first team honors in 2011. After transferring from Manhattan, Moeller started all 14 games, leading all Seawolves defenders with 45 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. He’s started each of the 45 career games he’s appeared in.

Stony Brook, which begins practice in two weeks, opens the season at Fairfield on February 18.
