STX Signs First Player to Inaugural Elite Women’s Lacrosse Team

Baltimore, MD – Baltimore-based STX, LLC, a global sporting goods leader, announced today that it has signed former University of Virginia women’s lacrosse captain, Josie Owen, as the very first member of its elite post-collegiate women’s team.

Owen, who hails from Gibson Island, MD, currently coaches at The University of Denver. Prior to graduating from UVA this past spring, she was a 2012 All-America selection as well as a Tewaaraton Award nominee. Her stellar four-year career with the Cavaliers was capped in her senior season, during which she recorded 42 goals and 35 assists for 77 points. She also led what is consistently one of the nation’s top women’s lacrosse programs with 46 draw controls.

“We are absolutely delighted that Josie has decided to join Team STX,” said STX assistant category brand manager Carrie Gamper. “Josie exemplifies everything that we are hoping for as we assemble the Team STX program. Her competitiveness and skill on the field, combined with her passion for all that is great about our sport off it, will be huge asset for us.”

Team STX is expected to compete at the highest levels of the post-collegiate women’s lacrosse circuit. In addition, the team will play a central role in the company’s grassroots efforts to expand the reach of the game.

“I am honored to be selected to participate on Team STX. It’s great to think that the possibility of post-collegiate opportunities for female lacrosse players is expanding,” said Owen. “STX has some things planned that will be beneficial to the visibility of the women’s game, and I am excited to contribute.”

STX, the leading manufacturer of lacrosse equipment since 1970, will identify and announce additional members of its inaugural team over the coming months. For more information, please contact Carrie Gamper at [email protected].
