The United States Navy's Sea, Air, and Land Teams are comprised of athletes who are a part of the special operations force, Naval Special Warfare Command, and SOCOM. In other words, they are badass mofos who can squash your head with their pinky. Yet, it seems like they have a shortage of recruits, so they want more lacrosse players to inquire within. Tonight will mark the inaugural Fallen Heroes Lacrosse Classic featuring between DeMatha (Md) and LaSalle (Pa). The two teams are meeting for the first time to honor LT Brendan Looney, USN (DeMatha) and 1st LT Travis Manion, USMC (LaSalle) who gave their lives serving in our Armed Forces. Both graduates of the United States Naval Academy, Looney and Manion were outstanding athletes in lacrosse and wrestling, respectively, best friends, and most importantly outstanding role models for everyone who knew them. Monday night, the nightly news for CBS and NBC paid tribute to true American heroes. Travis Manion and former Navy lacrosse standout Brendan Looney were roommates at the naval academy and became as close as brothers. One became a Marine stationed in Iraq, the other, a Navy Seal in Afghanistan. Both have died and were laid to rest side-by-side in Arlington's National Cemetery. View Videos...

Governor Martin O’Malley has ordered the United States Flag and Maryland State Flag flown at half staff on Monday, October 4, 2010 from sunrise to sunset. This is in memory of Lt. (SEAL) Brendan J. Looney, former Navy lacrosse player, who died on September21, 2010 during combat operations in the Zabul province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Brendan Looney, a former Navy lacrosse player who lived in Silver Spring, was among nine U.S. military personnel killed in a Blackhawk helicopter crash Tuesday in southern Afghanistan.
