BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following its second straight Patriot League Championship, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team held its annual awards banquet on Sunday at the Saucon Valley Country Club. The afternoon featured a look back at the 2013 season, the presentation of championship rings, handing out of team awards and more. Read More...
On Sunday, all of the boys gathered at the Goosey Gander for the Selection Show. Due to the fact that we had the AQ, we were all anxious to find out who we were going to play. I had many versions of my “Schmackatology” trying to find out who we played, but with every upset it changed. As we sat there and awaited our fate, we finally found out that we would be heading down to Chapel Hill. Read More...
Last weekend was a special one for the fourteen members of our senior class, as we were all honored for Senior Day versus Lafayette. Lafayette, as many of you know, is our rival, and we were looking to go 4-0 against them in our careers. A goal for the lacrosse team, as well as the Lehigh Athletics Department in general, is to “Always defeat Lafayette.” We knew that although they didn’t have the best record, they were a very talented team and we would have to bring our “A” game to do so. Last Friday night was a huge win. With the Regular Season Championship on the line, we were able to pull out the win over a very talented Bucknell team. As “Clarity” was bumping in the locker room after the win, and everyone was jumping up and down, it finally hit me; we would be hosting the Patriot League Tournament for the first time in school history. This is one of many of the firsts that we have accomplished since I have been here, and this was quite the turn around from my freshman year when we didn’t even qualify for the Patriot League Tournament. The winner will earn the right to host the 2013 Patriot League Tournament, which is huge. This has been a goal of ours all season, as Lehigh has never hosted before. Bucknell is a very talented team that is extremely well coached, so we know we will have our hands full. As Coach Cassese said, “This game is going to be an absolute tilt,” and I couldn’t agree more. Practice wrapped up on a great note last Friday and as Coach Cassese says, “the hay was in the barn.” Navy was coming to town and we knew we were in for a dogfight, which is always the case with a league school let alone one of the academies. A huge emphasis all week was on the fast start that Navy has been able to conjure up all season, as they were crushing their opponents in the first quarter. Read More...
I know I haven’t mentioned Ty much in this blog, but I can’t think of a kid I respect more for how hard he works on the field and just how great of a kid he is. Even though he is in the grade below me, I look up to him more than anyone on the team. Read More...
Coming off our huge win over Penn State, our squad felt like we were firing on all cylinders. The offense was starting to get very comfortable together and the defense was really starting to step up. We felt like we had corrected our early season woes and were back on the right track. We returned to an empty campus as everyone else went to Punta Cana or some other tropical place like that. Besides just going there, many of Lehigh’s students felt it necessary to post all of their pictures on every social media outlet possible. Read More...
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Brian Hess paced the offense with his second-career hat trick while sophomore Matt Poillon made 12 saves between the pipes as the #15/16 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team topped Army 10-6 in its league opener Saturday. Five Mountain Hawks (5-3, 1-0 Patriot League) finished with double-figure points, and senior Ryan Snyder was stellar at the faceoff X, to help Lehigh get off to an early lead which it wouldn’t relinquish. My choice was none other than Harry “The Stick Doctor” Lawrence, who is one of the lone English majors on the team (AKA he was my only choice). He agreed to proofread every one of my blogs and add input as long as he got one guest blog during the year, so here it goes. Shout out to my boy Harry L on his debut… Read More...
This past week definitely had its ups and downs. Coming off of our player’s only meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the team had a couple of great practices on Thursday and Friday. Our squad had a new sense of confidence as we were able to discuss our problems and figure out what we needed to do to be successful. Key themes that arose from the team meeting were playing together, playing hard, and regaining that chip on our shoulder that made us so successful last year. Read More...
I originally had written a two page analysis of what went wrong this weekend, but realized that if we want to win, we need to stop making excuses for ourselves and just let it all hang out. If you have been on any lacrosse website in the past two weeks, you know that February is when teams start to find their identity. So much hype was surrounding our matchup versus Denver asking, “Can Lehigh keep their spot among the game’s elites,” “Do they have what it takes to remain unbeaten?” Read More...
