UMD vs Notre Dame, Technical Difficulties

By Lacrosse Playground | May 23, 2010 |
If you watched the Quarterfinal match up between Maryland and Notre Dame on Saturday then you, too, are probably disappointed with ESPNU's production of the game. Repeatedly, throughout the game, ESPNU either went to a Black screen or a stationary viewing of the stats. When we, the fans, were actually able to view the game it was from a terrible angle with bad picture which made the game look like it was pulled from the ESPN Classics archives. One thing that the poor work of ESPNU helped add was suspense. Not being able to see what was going on made the pace of an otherwise dull game more exhilarating. View game photos...

Flashback: Grip ‘N Rip With Cornell’s Max Feely

By Lacrosse Playground | May 17, 2010 |
When we did a Grip 'N Rip on Max Feely back in February we knew he was a special player, but had no idea he'd end up scoring the game winning goal this past weekend to keep Cornell alive in the NCAA tourney. His goal in the third overtime was monumental and it has propelled the Big Red to meet Army next round. Check out the post-game press conference with Feely below at the :55 mark and his past Grip 'N Rip with great pictures of his stick.

Some Thoughts on The IVY League Jerseys

By Lacrosse Playground | April 19, 2010 |
The Ivy League has a deep lacrosse tradition. The league captured the first USILA championship in 1881, the first NCAA Championship in 1971 and remains one of the premiere leagues today even with the absence of athletic scholarships. As far as jerseys, there is an emphasis on the classic. Not surprisingly, some schools have remained very conservative in their attire, while others have broken the mold.

Syracuse Lacrosse shocks Cornell at the buzzer 8-7

By Lacrosse Playground | April 14, 2010 |
Last night, in a national championship rematch, Chris Daniello found the back of the cage as time expired to give Syracuse a 8-7 win over Cornell in thrilling fashion. The angle and proximity of the camera from the sideline adds to the suspense as you can't see the game clock and you can almost feel the rush of the crowd when Daniello nails his shot.

Grip ‘N Rip: Max Feely

Each week Lacrosse Playground will be featuring a different lacrosse athlete as part of our “Grip ‘N Rip” series, where we’ll find out what the best use to fine tune their game. This week we are featuring Cornell's Max Feely. This stud was extremely underrated going into college, but soon got on everyone's radar after Cornell's championship run in '09.

D-Middies and Their Shafts

By Lacrosse Playground | August 26, 2009 |
It’s no secret that defensive middies have been an integral part of the game. UVA’s Chris Rotelli and Billy Glading catapulted the reemergence of two-way middies just a few years ago which inevitably garnered attention to D-Middies. Coaches and spectators alike started to take notice. Fans started to not only cheer for the Kyle Harrison’s of the world, but instead they found themselves rooting for the Benson Erwin’s. The vital role D-Middies play in the MLL and at any level for that matter is irreplaceable.
