Griffo Wins Player of the Year; Spartans Place Nine on DSC All-Conference Team

WINGATE, N.C. - The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team won its second straight Deep South Conference regular season title and Monday nine players were named to the DSC All-Conference Team. For the second straight year, Greg Griffo was a first-team selection for the Spartans. Joey McMahan, Jasper Gantick, Eric Dance, Larry Gress, and Trevor Calleja were named second-team All-DSC, while Joseph Fiorucci, Kyle Hemrick, and Ryan Becker received honorable mention recognition. Tampa to Host Deep South Conference Semi Finals as Tournament Schedule Released

WINGATE, N.C.-The field has been set for the 2012 Deep South Conference Tournament, which will begin Tuesday night. The league is divided into North and South regions for the tournament. Tampa will be the number one seed in the South, while Mars Hill earns the top seed in the North. Tampa Lacrosse Among Two New Teams to Compete in Deep South Conference

WINGATE, N.C. - The Deep South Conference has added two new teams that will join the conference, starting in the 2012 season. Florida Tech and the University of Tampa will be members of the nine-team conference. This will be the first year of men's lacrosse for both schools. The Tampa Spartans will be coached by Rory Whipple, the former coach at fellow DSC school Florida Southern. Whipple also coached at Bryant University, starting the lacrosse program there. McAleavey Introduces Florida Tech’s First Lacrosse Team

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men’s Lacrosse) – Over 20 student-athletes from nine states make up Florida Tech’s first lacrosse team, unveiled by head coach Ryan McAleavey on Friday. As expected of a first-year program, much of the team is devised of freshmen. In fact, junior goalie Mason Cook (Hollywood, Md./Wingate) and junior midfielder Matt Durand (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Suffolk CC) are the only two Panthers listed as a sophomore or higher on the roster.
