Lehigh Wins Second Straight PL Title, 11-5 Over Bucknell



BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The #14/16 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one quarter and cruised to an 11-5 win over Bucknell to win its second straight Patriot League Championship on Sunday afternoon. Senior David DiMaria had two goals and three assists to finish with 10 points for the tournament and earn Tournament MVP honors. WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Brian Hess paced the offense with his second-career hat trick while sophomore Matt Poillon made 12 saves between the pipes as the #15/16 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team topped Army 10-6 in its league opener Saturday. Five Mountain Hawks (5-3, 1-0 Patriot League) finished with double-figure points, and senior Ryan Snyder was stellar at the faceoff X, to help Lehigh get off to an early lead which it wouldn’t relinquish. CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Dante Fantoni and sophomore Dan Taylor paced the offense with five points apiece while sophomore Matt Poillon made 11 saves in goal as the #17/19 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team topped #12/13 Penn State, 12-10 in the Whitman’s Sampler Independence Classic Saturday at PPL Park. Lehigh took a 5-1 halftime lead, but the Nittany Lions scored eight of the next 10 goals to take a 9-7 fourth-quarter advantage. Complacency. That was the key word and theme of practice this past week as our team found itself struggling only a few sleeps before the opening tilt of our 2013 campaign. The excitement of game #1 got the better of us, and as a result, our focus during last Thursday’s practice was less than acceptable. The lack of focus really came to light while we were struggling with our clearing drill. Coach Cassese was having none of it, and put us on the end line and ordered us to regroup. Read More…

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s lacrosse team hosted its sixth annual Community Night on Friday, which saw nearly 100 youngsters come out and learn from the defending Patriot League Champion Mountain Hawks. The one-hour clinic has continued to grow, beginning with only 15 attendees six years ago to where it is today, as one of the most highly-anticipated fall events for both the Mountain Hawks and the Lehigh Valley community. BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Smith Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kevin Cassese announced the team’s action-packed 2012 fall schedule on Wednesday, which includes Alumni Weekend, the Nick Colleluori Classic and the San Francisco Fall Classic. Lehigh’s fall will be an active one, including the Sixth Annual Nick Colleluori Lacrosse Classic when the squad will face Hofstra and Robert Morris, along with the San Francisco Fall Classic vs. Ohio State. Kevin Cassese to Coach in ‘Duel in Denver’ this Saturday



BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head men’s lacrosse coach Kevin Cassese will man the sidelines in Denver this Saturday, Sept. 8, when the U.S. National Team faces Canada in the “Duel in Denver.” It will mark the first time the current U.S. staff will coach together as they begin preparation for the 2014 FIL World Championships. United States’ head coach Richie Meade named his assistants in February, which includes Cassese, Dave Pietramala of Johns Hopkins and Jeff Tambroni of Penn State. Read More…
