2013 Lehigh Lacrosse Player Blog: Harry Lawrence Guest Writes

By Lacrosse Playground | March 15, 2013 |
My choice was none other than Harry “The Stick Doctor” Lawrence, who is one of the lone English majors on the team (AKA he was my only choice). He agreed to proofread every one of my blogs and add input as long as he got one guest blog during the year, so here it goes. Shout out to my boy Harry L on his debut… Read More...

Coast Guard Academy Lacrosse: Fireside Chat with Cadet Tim Wyderko

By Lacrosse Playground | March 11, 2013 |
New London, CT – This spring, we sat down Cadet 1/c Tim Wyderko - one of three 2013 Team Captains selected at the United States Coast Guard Academy. Cadet 1/c Tim Wyderko is the anchor of the Bears defense and earned the rare honor of selection as a team captain as a junior and senior. Wyderko is a "do everything" defender – in 2012, he had 74 ground balls, six points and too many individual clearing efforts to count. "Tim is an excellent one on one defender with great intuition," said Coach Weller. Read More...

2013 Colgate Lacrosse Player Blog: Nothing Like Home Cooking

By Lacrosse Playground | March 11, 2013 |
The boys were excited to get back to the practice field and begin preparing for Hobart, as practice was upbeat and filled with energy. Laughter filled the air on Andy Kerr Stadium, as any signs from the loss on Saturday seemed to have vanished. Monday called for a usual pregame practice, with Senior Matt Baker breaking the team down before we headed in from practice. Matt did a good job putting the Cornell game behind us, and getting us pumped up to play the “Hobartians.” Read More...

2013 Lehigh Lacrosse Player Blog: Ups and Downs

By Lacrosse Playground | March 8, 2013 |
This past week definitely had its ups and downs. Coming off of our player’s only meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the team had a couple of great practices on Thursday and Friday. Our squad had a new sense of confidence as we were able to discuss our problems and figure out what we needed to do to be successful. Key themes that arose from the team meeting were playing together, playing hard, and regaining that chip on our shoulder that made us so successful last year. Read More...

2013 Texas Lacrosse Player Blog: Things Got Serious

By Lacrosse Playground | February 21, 2013 |
We came. We saw. We conquered. Napoleon said it once. The Texas Longhorns Men’s D1 (Club) Lacrosse team said it again. This past weekend in New Orleans, after dedicating weeks of sweat, blood, and tears to preparing for the first big weekend of the year, the Horns took down two of the finest D1 (Club) teams in all the land. We made the Allstate Sugar Bowl (and the streets of New Orleans… after the second game) ours for the third year in a row. Read More...

Boston University Women’s Lacrosse 2013 Player Blog: Use Your Noodle

So last week when I was complaining about the long two weeks we had before our first game, I take it back! We have officially entered crunch time and have exactly one week until our first game. What really boggles my mind is that so many other teams have already started. They have to be crazy…especially the New England schools. What if it snows? What if another Nemo attacks?! Seriously now. We’ve had the same season opener for the past 6 years and I’m not saying we’re perfect but what’s the rush? Read More...

RPI Lacrosse Player Blog: Freezing Cold Weather

We started practice on Monday after a team meeting in the morning and it was easy to tell everybody was excited after they showed up to the locker room over an hour early. We had gotten most of our team gear and everybody was antsy getting dressed before coach came in and told us to get out on the field and start warming up. Read More...

Colgate Lacrosse 2013 Player Blog: Training Camp and Delaware Week

By Lacrosse Playground | January 28, 2013 |
“Greatness is upon you… You better act like it.” That was the quote on the back of our practice shirts in every player’s locker before the beginning of training camp. After a tremendous season last year, the 2013 Colgate Raiders have a lot to prove and build upon. Making the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA tournament puts a bullseye on our backs. Read More...

Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: We Made History

By Lacrosse Playground | May 22, 2012 |
Obviously a team never wants their season to end on a loss, but when looking back...what a ride. At the end of last season, the senior class knew we’d have a talented squad to lead this year, and understood how strong leadership combined with a cohesive group make for a great team. It would be our job to do just that. With about a month left in summer, the news was announced that Coach Murphy was hired as our new coach. He made sure to call every player, and discuss the coming year. When talking to each senior, Coach Murphy made clear his main goal for his inaugural season: make it the senior’s best one yet. Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: Go to the Final Four

By Lacrosse Playground | May 17, 2012 |
Now standing in our way is a very strong Duke team. They are solid in every facet of the game, but so are we. The trust and belief in one another on this team rivals any, and we plan to work as hard as ever for this game. It will not be easy, but we understand that. So following the graduation of our senior class in our hotel Saturday night (yes, we’re doing that), the opening face-off will be sometime around 2:30 on Sunday at PPL Park. It will come down to the team that takes care of the little things best, and the team that executes at the highest level. We aim to be that team and are working to make Sunday the best day ever. Lehigh Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: ‘Bring on the Terps’

By Lacrosse Playground | May 11, 2012 |
The privilege of playing lacrosse together still at this point in May is also special in its own right, but again by no means any source of complacency. A new opponent, a new opportunity, and a plethora of new naysayers are on the horizon. As has been the case since the days of my recruitment to Lehigh, though, the more that people predict us to lose, the more motivated (and more likely) we are to win. Bring on the Terps, bring on the NCAA Tournament, bring on the doubt…bring on whatever and I’m confident that it will only make this Lehigh lacrosse family stronger in the end. Read More...

Colgate Men’s Lacrosse 2012 Player Blog: The Terps Are Coming

By Lacrosse Playground | May 4, 2012 |
The Terps are coming to town on Saturday. It’s our senior day, the school’s springcoming, and the weather is supposed to cooperate. What better way could we as seniors ask to end our home careers other than beating Maryland at home and setting ourselves up for an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament. Of course we know it’s going to be a tough game coming at the end of the last week of classes, but who cares? Come Saturday the only thing that will matter is that all 47 guys on the roster go out to Andy Kerr and leave it all on the field. I can think of no better way to end my career here at Colgate than with this group of guys going up against an ACC powerhouse. Read More...
