Hempstead, NY – On Sunday, September 30, 2012 over 11 collegiate women’s lacrosse teams from Long Island, NY and the surrounding areas gathered to remember former Hofstra athlete and HEADstrong Founder Nicholas Colleluori by taking part in the 4th Annual Women’s Nick Colleluori Classic at Hofstra University. Hempstead, NY – This Sunday, September 30, 2012 over 11 collegiate women’s lacrosse programs will descend upon Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium to be part of the 4th Annual Women’s Nicholas Colleluori Classic. This special fundraising event has seen over $100,000 for the HEADstrong Foundation since its inception in 2008 and now under the direction of Hofstra Women’s Coach Shannon Smith, plans to expand the event are already underway for the 2013 fall season. NEW YORK — Shannon Smith of Northwestern has won the Honda Sports Award as the top woman in college lacrosse. Smith, of West Babylon, N.Y., led the Wildcats to the NCAA championship last month. She scored four goals, including the game-winner, in an 8-7 victory over top-ranked Maryland. She helped Northwestern win its sixth women’s lacrosse title in seven years. Keep Reading…
