Texas Men’s Lacrosse Player Blog: Ndamukong Suh

By Lacrosse Playground | April 24, 2012 |
We stopped by Niketown to get geared up, casually ran into Ndamukong Suh at the employee store, and dropped bills at none other than the Columbia store. Some kids on the team have an affinity for fishing gear… or they aspire to be the next Bear Grylls. We got some weird people. They outfitted themselves in camping stuff. Read More...

Late Surge Helps Jesuit Overcome St. Mark’s, 8-4

By Lacrosse Playground | April 20, 2012 |
Two things came to an end Thursday night: St. Mark’s bid for a perfect in-state record in 2012, and Jesuit coach Chris Surran’s career winless streak against coach Hayward Lee’s Lions. One thing that remains alive and well, however, is the potential for a playoff rematch between the North District’s two strongest teams. Thursday’s contest was truly a clash of titans, and the atmosphere left nothing more to be desired, with fans from both sides packing the bleachers of Haggar Stadium full. Read More...

By Lacrosse Playground | April 15, 2012 |
Despite entering the Southwest Prep Conference playoffs this weekend as the #1 seed from the SPC North Division, the defending champion St. Mark’s Lions were handed every excuse they could need to rationalize a possible loss this weekend. In the last seven days, they had learned that three more key starters were lost for the season, and senior middie and face-off specialist Nick Mahowald had been ruled ineligible due to a concussion sustained against Allen on Monday night. Lions Clinch THSLL Playoff Seed With 8-6 Win Over Coppell

By Lacrosse Playground | April 6, 2012 |
On Thursday night at Hunt Family Stadium, the St. Mark’s Lions (11-2) clinched a THSLL playoff seed and a bye in the North District playoffs with an 8-6 victory over the Coppell Cowboys (7-5). The Lions under Coach Hayward Lee remain unbeaten in North District play through six games. First-year coach Alex Poole’s Cowboys suffered their third Division I loss with only three games remaining against HP, Plano, and mid-cities rival Southlake Carroll. This was the first meeting between the two teams since Coppell eliminated St. Mark’s by a score of 11-10 in the 2011 Texas State Championship Semi-Finals. Read More...

Texas Heat Lacrosse’s Week 7 DI High School Power Rankings

By Lacrosse Playground | April 5, 2012 |
Dallas Jesuit held strong at the top and we gave a big bump to Westlake this week after their 11-8 win over Houston Christian. Leading 9-2 at halftime, Westlake looks like they've put the pieces together and are going into the end of the season with a lot of momentum. Highland Park may very well deserve a spot in the top 10, but we're waiting a bigger win and more than just some close losses to elite teams before throwing them back in the mix. Read More...

Months ago, we stated on Twitter that a big time university in the state of Texas would be adding a Division 1 lacrosse team. We had a strong reason to believe it would be TCU because they toyed with the idea of joining the Big East Conference. However, things changed, and SMU ended up joining the dominate conference. Funny how things work out. Read More...
