Taking On A Bigger Opponent, 3rd Annual HEADstrong Rivalry Games Set For April 7

Holmes PA- The HEADstrong Foundation in partnership with Widener University Men’s Lacrosse program has announced the 3rd Annual HEADstrong Rivalry Games at Widener University on Easter Saturday April 7, 2012. While the event showcases some of the most competitive rivalries in Southeastern Pennsylvania lacrosse, every team will have the same opponent that day; blood cancer.

The Rivalry Games will feature top high school varsity and JV boys lacrosse games from the Philadelphia region including, Wissahickon High School, Upper Merion High School, Interboro High School, Archbishop John Carroll High School, Perkiomen Valley High School, Spring-Ford High School, Radnor High School and Ridley High School.

The Rivalry Games will begin at 9:00AM and will be highlighted by Widener University Men’s Lacrosse Team taking on Albright College at 3:30PM. The games will continue throughout the day with the last game at 7:30PM when Ridley High School will face-off against Central League rival Radnor High School under the lights at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Community service and team building is at the heart of this philanthropic effort. Each participating program works to support the HEADstrong mission through selling awareness shirts and promoting blood cancer awareness at their respected institutions and in their local communities.

In an effort to promote involvement at all levels, a youth component as well as a collegiate game has been added to the line-up this year. Admission is a donation of $5.00 per person, with all fans 5 years and under admitted free.

“We have made some strategic upgrades to the event to showcase all levels of lacrosse ranging from youth to college with one goal in mind, to promote quality of life services for patients and families of blood cancer. This is a unique experience for players to face-off against blood cancer in a collegiate atmosphere. We hope that you will join us for a great lacrosse experience.” – Michael Colleluori, HEADstrong Vice President

The latest in HEADstrong’s arsenal of awareness products will be available to purchase at the event and guests are encouraged to wear lime green.

Since its inception the HEADstrong Rivalry Games has been an overwhelming success, attended annually by over 3,000 supporters and generating over $150,000 to date. Proceeds from the event benefit the HEADstrong Foundation in their fight against blood cancers. This effort was created in partnership with the Widener University Men’s Lacrosse Program.

The HEADstrong Foundation carries on the legacy and vision of HEADstrong founder Nicholas Colleluori through advocating, fundraising and supporting those affected by blood cancer and those working towards eliminating it.

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
