Terps Add Two For 2012 Season

COLLEGE PARK, MD. – University of Maryland men’s lacrosse coach John Tillman announced today that All-American midfielder Mike Chanenchuk and long pole Taylor Morgan have transferred to play for the Terps in 2012.

“We’re very pleased to be adding two student-athletes with the talent and character of Mike and Taylor,” said Tillman. “Mike is an exciting, well-rounded player, who will be a welcome addition to our offensive attack and Taylor will be a nice addition into our defense.”

Chanenchuk comes to College Park after spending his freshman season at Princeton in 2010. The native of Poquott, N.Y., did not play for the Tigers last spring.

Chanenchuk was a second team USILA All-American and the unanimous 2010 Ivy League Rookie of the Year after scoring 28 goals and adding eight assists. His goal total set the school freshman record and helped him be a unanimous selection to the All-Ivy League first team – the first Princeton freshman midfielder ever to be a first-team all-league honoree.

Highlights from his freshman season include four goals in two games vs. Cornell, a freshman midfielder record five-goal outing vs. Manhattan, three goals and two assists vs. Dartmouth, two goals vs. Syracuse and Harvard and a two-goal, one-assist game vs. Hofstra.

Chanenchuk was a 2008 Under Armour All-American and scored three goals in the All-America game. He was the Long Island Midfielder of the Year as a senior at St. Anthony’s High School after scoring 39 goals and adding 18 assists. A three-time letterwinner, he was also a two-time all-league selection.

Morgan comes to College Park after spending one season at Syracuse. The native of Potomac, Md., missed the entire 2011 season due to illness.

Morgan was the 77th-rated recruit overall, according to Inside Lacrosse, coming out of Georgetown Prep in 2010. He was a two-time all-state honoree and was named to the Washington Post’s All-Met team as a senior. Morgan helped lead the Hoyas to back-to-back state titles in 2009 and 2010.
