The Legend is Born: Announcing Epoch Lacrosse’s New Line of Alloy Shafts

We are excited to announce that Epoch Lacrosse has added their unparalleled alloy series, the Legend, to their growing lineup. Having just launched their brand with the innovative carbon fiber Dragonfly shaft, Epoch also strived to improve the conventional alloy shaft using their advanced technology and unprecedented knowledge. The series consists of four individual shafts: the Legend C3001, C3075 and F30Ti for attackmen/middies and the C6075 for defensemen.

During their Project Dragonfly journey, they discovered a huge opportunity existed to improve upon conventional alloy products. With the help of True Temper and their 100 years of manufacturing expertise, Epoch has the ability to offer a superior alloy product designed to maximize performance and playability, without breaking the bank.

Epoch’s engineers have studied the intricacies of the game and understand the delicate relationship between strength and weight vs. durability and performance. Additionally, they discovered that micro-changes in a shaft’s design can have a large impact on its performance. It is with this vast knowledge that the Legend Series was created.

Manufacturing:

A unique feature setting the Legend series apart from other alloy shafts is their state of the art manufacturing techniques. The Tube Drawing technique is used to ensure structural integrity remains consistent throughout the entire length of the shaft. The aluminum starts as a large tube (versus a block) and is drawn (versus pushed) through a dye. This process is repeated several times, with the tube diameter getting smaller and smaller each time, until it is shaped into the desired cross-section. It is only with this precision that Epoch is able to achieve their desired wall thickness, weight, and surface finish. The highly engineered cross-section and wall-thickness provides resistance to dents and dings while still allowing the shaft to maintain its intended “feel” and world-class strength to weight ratio. This attention to detail sets their world-class designs apart from the competition.

Materials:

Just as with the Dragonfly series, Legend utilizes true aerospace grade materials with unmatched quality and purity. Epoch secures their raw materials from known and trusted suppliers and is able to validate the chemical properties of every shaft that leaves their facility. In addition, their Optimal Feel Technology ensures the shafts just “feel” right.

Design:

Each design undergoes countless tests during development to ensure the design will stand up to the test of time. In additional to tireless field testing, these lab tests include the three point bend test providing a stiffness profile and the drop test which determines how resistant the shaft will be to denting. Also measured, is the tensile strength and hardness factor (utilizing the Rockwell scale).

Legend:

The Legend C6075 ($120 US MSRP) and C3075 ($85 US MSRP) have an optimized concave cross-section designed to maximize the potential of a “true” 7075 series alloy. The C6075 is 60″ in length and weighs a mere 375g; the C3075 is 30″ in length and is light and strong 175g. Both shafts come standard with Epoch’s Slip/Grip finish for an unmatched “feel” in an alloy.

The Legend C3001 ($115 US MSRP) has a higher concentration of Magnesium and Zinc versus the 7075 molecular makeup. Perfect for the middie who believes on playing both sides of the ball, this 7001 series alloy provides a best-in-class strength to weight ratio with proven balance. The C3001 is 30” and 185g of pure strength and comes standard with Epoch’s Slip/Grip finish.

The Legend F30Ti ($100 US MSRP) was created out of Grade 9 Titanium in a limited quantity run. This shaft is extremely light and strong offering solid performance and durability in the traditional feel of Titanium. The F30Ti is 30” and 195g.

All shafts are backed by Epoch’s one year limited warranty. The C3001, C3075 and C6075 come with five pre-drilled holes to fit various head configurations.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
