The University of Scranton Welcomes 19 Freshmen To Men’s Lacrosse Program


Jim Rogalski, head men’s lacrosse coach at The University of Scranton, has announced the addition of 19 freshmen to the roster for the upcoming 2012 season.

“My staff and I are very pleased to welcome this class,” says Rogalski, who led the Royals to its first Landmark Conference championship and first NCAA Division III tournament appearance in his first season as head coach last spring. “This is a hard-working, high-character group of young men that will represent our program and The University of Scranton community with honor, integrity, and dedication. The expectations are high for this class, and I know that they will rise to the challenge.”

The class of 2015 includes the following:

Kurt Abitz, a midfielder from Merrick, New York. He scored 12 goals and had nine assists to earn all-conference honors his senior year at Calhoun High School. He also lettered in ice hockey.

Michael Bernier, a midfielder from Wayne, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Malvern Preparatory School, which went 14-6 last spring and earned a 25th-place national ranking in ESPN’s Powerade’s Fab 50. He also lettered in water polo.

Tyler Bliss, a defender from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and a graduate of Ridge High School, where he also lettered in basketball. As a senior, he scored nine goals, had 15 assists, and scooped up 192 ground balls to earn second-team all-state honors. In his three seasons, Ridge posted an overall record of 41-21 (.661).

Matthew Bowman, a midfielder from Gillette, New Jersey, and a graduate of Watchung Hills Regional High School, where he was named the boys’ lacrosse team’s offensive player of the year. He also lettered in soccer and cross-country.

Daniel Crawford, a defender from Churchville, Pennsylvania. He earned honorable mention all-Philadelphia Catholic League for St. Joseph’s Preparatory, which won the Philadelphia Catholic League title and advanced to championship game of the state tournament in 2011. He also lettered in football.

Matthew Cunningham, a midfielder from Seacliff, New York, and a graduate of North Shore High School, where he was a three-year letterman on the boys’ lacrosse team and finished his career with 40 goals and 30 assists. He also lettered in football.

Nicholas Fabiano, an attacker from Mineola, New York. In three seasons as a member of the Mineola High School boys’ lacrosse team, he scored 32 goals and had 37 assists and was named all-conference once. He was also a four-year letterman in wrestling, earning all-county honors twice, and lettered once in football.

Patrick Farrell, a defender from Jamison, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of St. Joseph’s Preparatory, where earned all-Philadelphia Catholic and all-state honors his senior year. He was also selected St. Joseph’s most valuable player (MVP). He was a teammate of Daniel Crawford at St. Joseph’s, which won the Philadelphia Catholic League championships and advanced to the championship game of the state tournament in 2011.

Matthew Finor, a midfielder from Churchville, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Council Rock South High School. He was a three-year letterman on the boys’ lacrosse team at Council Rock South and finished his career with 48 goals and 59 assists. He was a three-time all-conference selection and earned Council Rock South’s most player award (MVP).

Dennis Jordan, a midfielder from West Long Valley, New Jersey. He lettered twice in lacrosse and cross-country at West Morris Central High School.

Anthony Lombardo, an attacker from Mendham, New Jersey. He was a three-year letterman on the boys’ lacrosse team at West Morris Mendham High School, where he was named the team’s most valuable player (MVP) and earned honorable mention all-state honors. In 2010, West Morris Mendham won the Group 2 state title.

David Magrini, a midfielder from Montclair, New Jersey, and a graduate of Trinity Pawling High School. He finished his high school career with 59 total points and was an all-league and all-star selection. He also lettered in football.

William Mahle, an attacker from Montgomery, New Jersey. He scored 19 goals and had five assists in two seasons as a member of the boys’ lacrosse team at Montgomery High School, which posted back-to-back winning seasons.

Peter Meehan, a defender from Rockville Centre, New York. He was a four-year letterman on the boys’ lacrosse team at South Side High School, which went 21-10 in his final two seasons there including a 12-4 record and Conference B-11 championship in 2010. He also lettered in football.

Ryan Millard, a defender from Long Valley, New Jersey. He lettered three times in football and boys’ lacrosse at West Morris Central High School. In lacrosse, he finished with 231 ground balls in three seasons and was named second-team all-conference once and honorable mention once along with being named the team’s defender of the year.

Tim O’Rourke, a midfielder from West Chester, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of St. Joseph’s Preparatory where he teamed with Dan Crawford and Pat Farrell on a team that won the Philadelphia Catholic League title and advanced to the championship game of the state tournament in 2011.

Colin Panayi, a defender from Bedminster, New Jersey, and a graduate of Bernards High School. He recorded 120 ground balls his senior year to earn honorable mention Group 2 all-state, first-team all-Skyline Conference, and second-team all-Somerset County honors. He also scooped up 78 ground balls his junior year and earned second-team all-division honors.

Dom Scali, a midfielder from Colts Neck, New Jersey. He lettered in lacrosse at both Colts Neck High School and Christian Brothers Academy. He scored 35 goals his senior year to earn second-team all-division honors and was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the Blue & White Lacrosse League.

Chris Sumpter, a goalkeeper from Crofton, Maryland. He lettered in boys’ lacrosse and ice hockey at South River High School. He earned all-league honors three times for his play in goal on the ice hockey team.
