US Lacrosse today announced the opening of the application period for players interested in trying out for the 2016 U.S. Men’s Under-19 National Team.

Tryouts will be held June 29-July 1, 2015, at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. All high school and college players born between Sept. 1, 1996, and July 6, 2000, are eligible and encouraged to apply.

Completed applications are to be returned directly to US Lacrosse by Friday, April 24, with a copy of the player’s birth certificate and a $50 application fee check. A committee of 12 coaches, including high school area chairs, former U19 coaches, college coaches and the current U19 coaching staff, will review applications. The player pool for the June tryout will be announced on Friday, May 29. Those selected for the tryout will be required to confirm attendance by Friday, June 5, by returning a more detailed application and the tryout fee.

In February, US Lacrosse announced Ohio State University head coach Nick Myers as head coach of the U.S. Men’s Under-19 National Team. Myers will lead the team in its quest for an eighth consecutive world title at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship, July 7-16, 2016, in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

The U.S. Men’s U19 team has amassed a 41-2 all-time record in international play, claiming gold in each of the seven U19 World Championship events to date (1988, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2008, 2012). Team USA defeated Canada 10-8 in the gold medal game to capture the 2012 World Championship in Turku, Finland.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
