Turf Field Coming To Roger Williams University

BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University announced the addition of a 2.15 million dollar turf field to its campus with the ground breaking ceremony taking place May 23. The project also includes seating for 575, including more than 50 seat backs, state-of-the art environmentally sensitive lighting, a new scoreboard and press box.

The announcement was made by President Ronald Champagne, Ph.D., accompanied by Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. John King and Acting Athletic Director Dave Kemmy. During the ceremony numerous details were unveiled surrounding the construction project which offers RWU student-athletes and staff numerous advantages over the current Bayside Field, including all-weather availability. The turf field will see dramatically increased use, while requiring very low maintenance with a grass-like look and performance.

The primary groups utilizing the turf include Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Intramural Sports such as Flag Football, Soccer and Softball, Club Sports such as Ultimate Frisbee, Rugby and Field Hockey. The Baseball and Softball teams will also benefit during foul weather, while additional recreational opportunities will continue to arise with the new option.

Numerous opportunities still exist for supporters wishing to contribute to the future turf, including the purchase of a chair back set and/or permanent chair back plaque, alumni class plaques and naming rights to the field, the press box, entrance pavilions and more.
