Two-Time National Champion Mike MacDonald Joins Le Moyne Men’s Lacrosse Staff

Le Moyne College head men’s lacrosse coach Dan Sheehan announced on Thursday, January 19 that Mike MacDonald has joined his coaching staff as an assistant coach.

MacDonald, who graduated from Syracuse University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in communication and rhetorical studies, spent the previous three years substitute teaching and coaching the offense at Henninger High School. In 2011, the Blacks Knights earned the seventh seed in the Section III playoffs and had a midfielder named to the Post-Standard All-Central New York Third Team.

MacDonald lettered for four seasons with the Orange and played a part in two National Championships (2004 and 2008). He appeared in 37 games in his career and tallied 13 points on nine goals and four assists. As a freshman, he found the back of the net three times for the eventual National Championships, including twice in a victory over UMass and once in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against UAlbany. In 2007, MacDonald scored six goals and dished out a pair of assists. His best game of the season came against Rutgers, when he posted five points on four goals and an assist. For the 2008 National Champions, he played in 10 games, handing out a pair of assists and picking up three ground balls.

A native of Syracuse and a 2003 Henninger High School graduate, MacDonald earned his Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Le Moyne in December 2011. In his scholastic career with the Black Knights, MacDonald scored 100 goals and posted 59 assists as a four-year varsity letterwinner. In 2003, he was named an All-American, a Section III All-Star and first team all-league after scoring 51 goals and dishing out 29 assists, while picking up 71 ground balls.
