University of North Texas Uniforms

Flattery is key to any Babe’s heart, after receiving a very flattering email from University of North Texas in Denton,TX I couldn’t help but write an article on their team, plus the fact that they have sick jerseys doesn’t hurt. They are currently in their 14th season, and have made it to their conference playoffs for seven straight years.

“When I got here the team had a ton of talent, but no direction. There was very little organization, and really no identity. Since then I have tried to keep the team driven towards the goal of becoming a “virtual varsity” program. To get us on the right path, I have pushed to make us very similar to a fraternity. I have always viewed my lacrosse teams as fraternities, but with the extra benefit of getting to compete together all over the country. Not only are we participating in the fun extracurricular fraternity events like sorority mixers and philanthropies, we are taking the fraternity route in regards to organization, funding, and, most importantly, recruiting methods of a fraternity.” The coach states.

When asked about the design the coach responded with, “To get someone to stop and say “Wow!” Look at the University of Oregon Football Team. They are nationally known for one main reason: their crazy/wild/different (whatever adjective you want to use) uniforms.”

The team is playing with STX Assaults and Cascade Pro7 helmet. Jerseys designed by Pro Athletics. Click a photo to begin slide show…

Thanks to coach Cosey Carlisle and the UNT lacrosse team, have a great remaining season bros!

If you know a team with sick jerseys send pictures to [email protected] or if tweeting is more your style, twitpic them to @alfral.

This guy has got to be kidding…team lacked direction? Former UNT coach Karl Lynch was a great coach that did not lack direction. I’m not saying that Cosey is a bad coach, just that Karl was better than he was just given credit for. As a side note…full argyle? Really? Are these summer league jerseys? Are they for a middle school team? I like the argyle numbers on the whites, but the greens are just to much. Hopefully the new coach can get organized enough to get game jerseys for the whole season next year…that’s right…they didn’t get these until recently…they played the whole season in practice jerseys. Good thing that the players were good enough to look past their new coaches short comings. Best of luck to the UNT players. To the coach however…don’t quit your day job.

Pro Athletics didn’t deliver those jerseys to us until post season, we received them the week of our playoff game against OU, so the reason we had to wear pinnies(that still met all requirements set by the MCLA and LSA. Not only that but since there weren’t sleeves there was more airflow and were that much more comfortable in the heat) was because of the manufacturer, not because of our coach. The good news is that, since we now have our jerseys for post season, we also have our jerseys for next season too! Imagine that, our shits together! Coaching is a learning curve and you just compared a first year collegiate coach to Karl Lynch, who coached for 11 years here at UNT, thats not a fair assessment on your part and if you are in fact a coach Texas_Lacrosse, I am willing to bet you didn’t step into a MLCA D! head coaching position BEFORE even graduating college, what Cosey did was an incredibly selfless thing to take over when Karl left. He filled the vacancy and took over when the organization needed someone to step up. He has surpassed everyones expectations that is affiliated with the club, players, parents, and alumni alike, and everyone has his back. So if you are affiliated with Texas Lacrosse, Cosey and the Mean Green will see you on April 30th in Southlake, and we’ll be wearing Green.

I also don’t think it was a slight against Coach Lynch. He was a great coach for UNT, but with a full-time job and family to keep balanced, it just became too much of a strain to work for peanuts. The time and effort he dedicated into getting his players ready for game day should never be questioned. That said, he left most other areas of the team (such as recruiting, fundraising, apparell, facilities, equipment etc.) to the players themselves, which can quickly get out of hand if left to students with no experience running a team. The program has simply been on auto pilot with no clear destination for too long, and I commend Cosey for providing a much needed breath of fresh air. Prior to these uniforms, UNT had worn the same dazzled uniforms for 4 years straight. Not sure about your thoughts but that’s just unacceptable from any team. Kudos to you Coach Carlisle, you can’t please everyone, but you have plenty of support in your corner regardless.

Change your name. You’re giving Texas lacrosse a bad rep. Get your info right before you post your ignorant comments . You sound like a water boy/keyboard warrior.

In know way was I taking a shot at Karl. I still talk to him often and am always the first person to praise him for what he did with the UNT Lacrosse team. I was making no comment whatsoever about the performance or coaching of the team, and I’m sorry if it was taken that way. Karl is and was an amazing coach. The areas where this team had no identity or direction were not ones where Karl was very involved. He was there to coach and handle many duties in dealing with the league, and he did a fantastic job. It was all of the other aspects of this team that needed and still need work: recruiting, fundraising, promotion, etc. We operate, and have operated, with a budget way below that of teams like Texas, A&M, and SMU. Our roster is, and has been, considerably smaller than many of our LSA rivals. These were areas that were expected to be addressed by the team members, not the coach. These were the areas in which I tried, and am still trying, to get us moving in the right direction. I have been looking at my position with team now as both the head coach and general manager. I am not as good of a coach as Karl, but I do believe I am a good manager. I have tried to take on some of the responsibilities that in the past were placed on the players shoulders, because it is what is best for the program at the moment, and once we get things flowing in the right direction those responsibilities will go back to the players.

Addressing the uniforms: Yes we did wear pinnies during the season. I am aware that it did not look good for our program and I was embarrassed that we had to play in them. However, we are not a team blessed with funding. After dealing with multiple companies trying to get uniforms and running into several problems, we finally got them, but it was not until the end of the season. Stuff happens. We didn’t have them, but now we do. As to the design, we could care less that you or annoying head coaches that run other lacrosse websites or anyone else don’t like them. You’re most certainly entitled to your opinion. We like them. All of the youth and high school players in our area so far have loved them, and that’s who we want to like them. Most importantly, they’re getting attention. Even if everyone hated them, as long as they’re getting the publicity that they have in just a couple of days, we would be fine with it. I pushed to get this posted just to help get the team noticed. It’s definitely working. Unfortunately, we have to deal with people like you and the aforementioned coach feeling so high and mighty that you must judge us and have your opinion seen by as many people as possible. That’s the nature of the internet, though, and that’s okay.

Say what you want about me. I can handle criticism, even if it is unwarranted. I will not, however, have you misconstrue my words and have people believing that I am saying anything negative about a man that has played the Biggest role in the UNT Lacrosse program and has played a very big role in my life. Oh, and don’t worry, I will be keeping my day job. I coach voluntarily, so quitting it would be pretty unreasonable. Have a good one. God Bless.
