As teams progress into the NCAA Tournament, they get perks. This is true for the UVA Men’s Lacrosse team. The team received two pairs of Nike cleats for their Quarterfinal game against Cornell this weekend.
The first pair is the Nike Zoom Vapor Carbon Fly with a custom tongue featuring a “V.” The integrated dynamic tongue is for ultimate lockdown and Nike Flywire technology for maximum support and minimal weight. This lightweight cleat has Nike’s smart design elements like Flywire and Zoom Air™.
Flywire is composed of ultra-thin nylon threads that are designed to add the same amount of support as a standard upper but at a fraction of the weight. A Zoom Air™ unit in the midsole offers responsive cushioning. The injected Pebax® frame has a carbon fiber insert for ultimate response and propulsion. That carbon fiber insert gives more support to the lightweight Pebax® to drive your stride.
Players will also be seen wearing this masterpiece. Looks to be a hybrid between Huarache and Alpha Speed.

I have seen the new Huarache’s up close in person at Syracuse’s Lacrosse Unlimited and Ill describe it as a vapor fly Mid .. This is sad because, from my experience and many guys I play with, players that are susceptible to shin splints and general lower leg chronic pain definitely suffer more from the use of the vapor series. If you compare the current vapors and huaraches, the base plate (bottom of cleat) is stripped down to a bare minimum for the vapors, while the Huarache is wider and covers the entire breadth of the foot.
After using both the vapor jets, vapor carbons, and huarache 1 and 2s, I will be the first to say there is no comparison.. the vapor series offers better traction. HOWEVER, the wear and tear on my feet (blisters, busted toenails) and extreme stress to my shins were too much to continue wearing them. Ive been a huarache user for the past year and the feet issues are gone (I attribute this to the inner sleeve of the huarache) and my shin splints (which have been chronic for years) are manageable with ice and normal rest periods. With the vapors, I was limited performance wise during peak season and summer leagues with games on multiple days in a row.
The reason I mention this is because after seeing the new cleat at the shop, i noticed its clearly based off the vapor base plate. This is sad because the current huarache line offers a better product for players who need the lateral support that the vapor series lacks.
Hopefully Nike has something else in the pipeline to complement the vapor series and this suspected “New Huarache”
I manage the store in Syracuse and we never had these shoes your speaking of here.. if you want we can discuss the mechanics of the shoe anytime your free..
Lies ! get back to work “lulax” haha
