BALTIMORE, Dec. 4, 2013 — US Lacrosse is proud to announce the recipients of the 2013 Michael Breschi Scholarship, Cameron Lynch from Glascow (Ky.) High School and Conor Resch from La Salle College (Pa.) High School.

The scholarship was established in 2007 to honor the life and memory of Michael Breschi, son of the University of North Carolina’s head coach, Joe Breschi. This is the second time since the inception of the scholarship that two males have won the award. The letters of recommendation for both Lynch and Resch described them as dependable leaders and hardworking individuals, among other commendable qualities.

“On behalf of my wife Julie and my four daughters (Sammy, Abby, Lucy and Emily) we are proud and honored to announce that Cameron Lynch and Conor Resch are this year’s winners of the Michael Breschi Scholarship,” said Breschi. “I want to commend these two young student athletes who exemplify tremendous character, integrity and work ethic both in the classroom and on the playing field. As a family, we are sincerely grateful for all the hard work that US Lacrosse and its staff does to help keep our son Michael’s memory alive in the great sport of lacrosse. We wish both Cameron and Conor a wonderful college experience and a successful future.”

The Michael Breschi Scholarship is awarded annually to two graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college and are the son or daughter of a coach. The parent or guardian can be either a male or female coach for high school or college, and should be a full-time employee of an educational institution. Other criteria considered include extracurricular activity, internships, community service and employment experience.

“I would like to thank both US Lacrosse and the Breschi family for their awarding me this scholarship,” said Lynch. “The scholarship brings validity full circle to Glasgow, Ky. as the recipient of a start-up grant from US Lacrosse 10 years ago. Playing lacrosse has been a huge part of my life with Glasgow’s team, the first public high school club team in Kentucky. Literally hundreds of players joined over the past 10 years, and this award is a testament to their purpose and determination.”

“When my father told me about the accident involving Michael Breschi it hit me hard,” said Resch. “It is difficult losing a family member and I feel honored to be selected to receive this scholarship named in his memory.”

“US Lacrosse would like to extend its best wishes to Cameron now at University of Kentucky and Conor at Yale University,” said Ann Carpenetti, managing director of game administration at US Lacrosse. “Each year we are honored to work with Coach Breschi and his family in awarding this scholarship to exemplary student athletes who are leaders on and off the field.”
