US Lacrosse Welcomes Three New Chapters in Louisiana, Nevada and North Florida

BALTIMORE, Jan. 16, 2014 – US Lacrosse, the national governing body for men’s and women’s lacrosse, announces the addition of three newly-created chapters to its network of regional chapters. The US Lacrosse Board of Directors approved the addition of chapters for Louisiana, Nevada and North Florida during its meeting last week. Led by local volunteers and supported by national staff in Baltimore, each chapter will deliver programs, services and leadership to the lacrosse community within its geographic area.

Per US Lacrosse guidelines, the three new chapters will function under provisional status for one year. During this time, each chapter must demonstrate compliance with US Lacrosse chapter guidelines, meet all annual deadlines and progress toward chapter certification requirements. US Lacrosse’s Chapter Governance Subcommittee will closely monitor the activity and progress of the provisional chapters throughout 2014, with the intention of having the chapters receive “official” status in January 2015.

“It is with great anticipation and excitement that we proudly announce that US Lacrosse is adding Louisiana, Nevada and North Florida as new provisional chapters in 2014,” said Steve Kirr, director of regional development at US Lacrosse. “These three chapters will serve areas of the country that currently have a critical mass of US Lacrosse members who will benefit by the leadership and support of a US Lacrosse chapter.”

The addition of these three chapters expands the US Lacrosse network to 67 chapters across 45 states.

“Lacrosse has come a long way in North Florida over the last 10 years,” said Bob Kapcio, president of the North Florida Chapter. “We hope the new chapter, along with the existing chapters in the central and southern parts of our state, will continue to raise the bar and visibility of lacrosse in Florida.”

“Lacrosse is a new and rapidly growing sport in Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast and we look forward to joining our efforts to those of US Lacrosse to promote the sport and its intrinsic values within our area,” said Mike Treloar, president of the Louisiana Chapter.

“The establishment of a Nevada chapter will enable us to better provide US Lacrosse sanctioned best practices for coaches, parents, players, and officials,” said Alan Diskin of the Nevada Chapter. “These best practices help ensure that the sport is played with integrity, and with a focus on fairness, fun, and safety.”

About US Lacrosse Chapters
A chapter of US Lacrosse is an extension of the national organization. A chapter unifies, promotes and provides programs and services to the many aspects of men’s and women’s youth, high school and post-collegiate lacrosse in its geographic area. Each chapter serves as a conduit of the national headquarters of US Lacrosse. Chapters run their own hall of fame banquets, special events, fundraisers, tournaments, meetings and gatherings. They can also host Coaching Education Program clinics, officials training clinics, apply for US Lacrosse’s grant programs and send teams to US Lacrosse national youth events.
