UVa to be Represented Well at the 2014 FIL World Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia will be well represented at the 2014 FIL World Championship, presented by Trusted Choice, July 10-19 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.

Current UVa associate head coach Marc Van Arsdale headlines Virginia’s participants, as he will serve as the offensive coordinator for the Iroquois Nation. Current UVa defenseman Tanner Scales (Denver, Colo.) is the volunteer defensive coordinator for Uganda, and former UVa All-American and 2011 Tewaaraton Trophy winner Steele Stanwick has been selected as one of two alternates for the USA.

“Working with the Iroquois National Team this summer provides the chance to coach and learn from some of the most dynamic players in lacrosse today,” said Van Arsdale. “It also gives me the opportunity to gain a better understanding of our game’s roots and foundations from people to whom lacrosse is so much more than a sport.”

Van Arsdale will be working with 2014 co-Tewaaraton Trophy winners, Lyle and Miles Thompson.

Stanwick, a 2012 UVa graduate, joins goalie John Galloway as one of Team USA’s two alternates. Both alternates were selected to travel with the team to Colorado and will be added to the active roster only in the instance of injury. Per FIL policy, no changes to the active roster may be made after Wednesday, July 9.

ESPN will provide unprecedented coverage of the FIL World Championship, showing approximately 60 games across its networks and via ESPN3. The semifinals and championship games will be televised live on ESPNU, and all U.S. team games will be included in the package.
