Villanova Men’s Lacrosse Announces Class of 2016


VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova men’s lacrosse Head Coach Mike Corrado is set to welcome the addition of 11 student-athletes for the 2012-2013 academic year.

The Class of 2016 features two all-america selections, four all-state honorees, nine all-league performers and includes a balanced mix of three attackmen, four midfielders, three defensemen and one goalkeeper.

Joining the Wildcats this fall are Brent Croonquist (North Caldwell, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), Jack Curran (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven), Harry DellaFera (Lattington, N.Y./Friends Academy), Terence Foley (Islip, N.Y./Islip), Johnny Gallaway (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Dan Goldstein (Middletown, Md./Middletown), Kieran Kenny (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton), John Kluh (Lothian, Md./St. Mary’s), John Moderski (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn), Tim Mulrenan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and Greg Stamatov (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro).

“Our coaching staff is extremely excited to welcome the Class of 2016 to the Villanova Lacrosse family and university community,” Corrado states. “Each one of these student-athletes is exceptional both on the field and in the classroom and we’re looking forward to their arrival on campus in August.”

#42 Brent Croonquist
North Caldwell, N.J./Seton Hall Prep
Midfield/Face-off Specialist – 6’3″, 200 lbs.
Seton Hall Prep: Earned two varsity letters under head coach Dave Giarrusso, serving as a team captain during his senior season… Posted a 70% face-off win percentage… Also earned three varsity letters in football as a tight and defensive end.
#19 Jack Curran
Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven
Midfield – 6’0″, 180 lbs.
Rumson-Fair Haven: Earned four varsity letters under head coach Reid Jackson, posting 157 career points and 107 career goals as a team captain… Became the first athlete to eclipse the 100 goal mark in school history… Named a 2012 All-American, Shore Conference Player of the Year, Second Team All-State Group 1 and First Team All-Shore Conference selection… Member of the All-Shore All-Star team in 2012 and 2011… 2011 Honorable Mention All-State Group 1 honoree… Also lettered in basketball… Awarded the 2012 Monmouth County Sportsmanship Award.

#3 Harry DellaFera
Lattington, N.Y./Friends Academy
Attack – 5’8″, 145 lbs.
Friends Academy: Earned four varsity letters under head coach Brian Crocco, posting 101 goals and 91 assists during his high school career, including 40 goals and 42 assists during his senior season as a team captain… Helped Friends Academy reach the Nassau Country Finals in 2012 and 2011… Named an all-county and honorable mention all-county selection the past two seasons… Also lettered in ice hockey and soccer, where he guided Friends Academy to a New York Class C State Championship in soccer… Named the Friends Academy Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year and earned the Coaches Award in both lacrosse and soccer… Member of the National Society of High School Scholars.

#12 Terence Foley
Islip, N.Y./Islip
Defense – 6’2″, 200 lbs.
Islip: Earned four varsity letters under head coach Keith Scheidel, collecting 280 ground balls during his high school career… 2012 and 2011 all-county selection… Also lettered in basketball and football, playing wide receiver and safety while leading Islip to a 2012 and 2011 Big Four Championship… Named a scholar-athlete in both lacrosse and football…. Member of the National Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society.

#9 Johnny Gallaway
Middletown, Md./Middletown
Attack – 5’11”, 190 lbs.
Middletown: Earned four varsity letters under head coach Todd Hawkins, serving as a team captain and posting 327 career points (192 goals, 135 assists)… Helped guide Middletown to two regional championships and two league championships… Named a 2012 US Lacrosse All-American, Ensign C. Markland Kelly Award Finalist and Frederick News Post Offensive Player of the Year… Named an ESPN Top 100 pick for the Class of 2012… Four-time member of the Frederick News Post All-Area First Team, three-time member of the MVAL All-League First Team and All-Gazette First Team… Named a 2011 all-state honorable mention… 2011 Maryland Free State team… Was the 2011 leading scorer for Maryland State 3A/2A championship game… Member of the National Honor Society and 2012 MVAL Academic Award Winner… High Honors graduate.

#41 Dan Goldstein
Middletown, Md./Middletown
Defense – 6’3″, 210 lbs.
Middletown: Earned four varsity letters under head coach Todd Hawkins, posting over 40 points as a defenseman… Four-time first team all-conference selection… Three-time first team all-area honoree… Named a 2012 Maryland Senior All-Star… Also lettered in football where he was an all-conference and all-area selection as a linebacker and tight end… Graduated with honors.

#30 Kieran Kenny
Morristown, N.J./Delbarton
Midfield – 5’10”, 165 lbs.
Delbarton: Earned two varsity letters under head coach Chuck Ruebling, captaining the team to a 2012 and 2011 Non-Public A Group Championships and 2012 second place finish at the Tournament of Champions… Named a 2012 Pitt-Fitch Division All-Star and awarded the 2012 Delbarton Harold B. Rice Hustle Award… Also lettered in track, where he was named to the 2011 Morris County All-County Team…. Holds the USATF 100m state record (11.03s) and was the 2011 Morris County 55m Champion… 2011 Track Coaches Award winner… Earned High Honors all four years.

#1 John Kluh
Lothian, Md./St. Mary’s
Midfield – 5’5″, 145 lbs.
St. Mary’s: Earned three varsity letters under head coaches Matt Hogan and Rob Chomo… Awarded the 2012 Coaches Award and 2011 Unsung Hero Award… Named the 2012 C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Athletic Service Award winner… Also earned three varsity letters in soccer, where he was the 2012 Coaches Award winner… Four-Year member of the Honor Roll.

#24 John Moderski
Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn
Defense – 5’11”, 170 lbs.
William Penn: Earned three varsity letters under head coach Pat McDonough, posting eight goals and 15 assists as a defenseman… Named a 2012 First Team All-State selection and was a two-time First Team All-Inter-Ac honoree… Also lettered in football, baseball and basketball… Named a 2012 First Team All-Inter-Ac and honorable mention all-city selection for basketball after leading the division averaging 18.1 points per game during his senior season.

#14 Tim Mulrenan
Glen Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep
Attack – 6’0″, 165 lbs.
Seton Hall Prep: Earned three varsity letters under head coach Dave Giarrusso, setting a school record with 152 career points… Posted 42 goals and 36 assists during his senior season, setting a single season record… Named a 2012 First Team All-State Non-Public, First Team All Fitch-Pitt and first team all-county selection… 2011 First Team All-State Non-Public, First Team All Fitch-Pitt and first team all-county selection honoree… Named to the 2011 Under Armour New Jersey lacrosse team and Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip Rising Senior camp… Also lettered in soccer, where he was a 2012 second team all-conference selection and led Seton Hall Prep to a SEC and Essex County Championship… Member of the Honor Roll.

#40 Greg Stamatov
Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro
Goalkeeper – 5’8″, 160 lbs.
Foxboro: Earned three varsity letters under head coach Matt Noone, captaining the team to a 51-12 record during his career… 2012 Hockomock League All-Star and Two-Time Hockomock League MVP… 2011 Warrior 40 Selection… Also earned two varsity letters in football as a wide receiver and four varsity letters in ice hockey as a center… Founded Lacrosse General, a non-profit organization that donates used equipment to youth lacrosse players… 2012 New England Patriot Charitable Foundation Scholarship Award Winner.
