2013 MLL All-Pro Team presented by LACROSSE.COM announced

Boston (August 23, 2013)- Major League Lacrosse announced the 2013 MLL All-Pro Team, presented by LACROSSE.COM. 12 players were named to the 2013 All MLL team, representing the best players in their respective positions.

Every year MLL partner LACROSSE.COM runs a poll allowing fans to contribute a third of the vote for the All-Pro Team, while the other two thirds are made up by MLL coaches and general managers.

The Denver Outlaws lead the way with five of their current players named to the MLL All-Pro Team. Three players represent the Hamilton Nationals, while the Chesapeake Bayhawks, Boston Cannons, Charlotte Hounds, and New York Lizards each had one player named to the roster.

In goal, fans, coaches, and GMs chose Outlaws Jesse Schwartzman, a dominant goalie. This is his second time receiving the honor, as he also did so in 2009. In 2013 Schwartzman earned the all-time lowest single season goals against average at 9.67 and earned more wins than any goalie in MLL history. Schwartzman’s 14 wins and .597 save percentage were also recognized when he won the 2013 Warrior Goalie of the Year honors.

Tucker Durkin, of the Hamilton Nationals, is the lone rookie to be named to the MLL All-Pro Team, but deservingly so. Durkin was named Warrior Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, for phenomenal performances and shutting out opposing offenses. Playing in 11 games this season, Durkin collected 24 ground balls and helped Hamilton achieve one of the lowest goals against totals in 2013.

Also contributing to a team with only 149 goals against, was Mike Evans of the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Evans is no stranger to this honor, making the All MLL Team each of the last three seasons. Evans also earned a spot at the 2013 All-Star Game, a standout amongst defensemen in the League.

In contrast to rookie Durkin, Brodie Merrill has earned this honor for his eighth consecutive season. Merrill not only defends Hamilton’s territory, but he has also tied Mason Poli, for the most points scored by a defender in 2013, with 11. Merrill contributed nine assists and two goals this season.

Lee Zink the final defenseman and the most decorated of the three. He has also been named this year’s Warrior Defensive Player of the Year, his second season with the honor. Zink is the face, and stick, of the Denver defense, the best in the League.

Greg Gurenlian, the sole representative for the Lizards, has been a dominant faceoff specialist in his 10th season with the League. Gurenlian has posted the highest single-season faceoff win percentage, .640. This is his second consecutive season earning the MLL All-Pro Team honors.

Denver’s Jeremy Sieverts, joins the All-Pro Team for the first time, after playing in the League for four seasons. Sieverts collected 44 points on the season, and six two-point goals. He rests at eighth in the League in scoring, just below teammate Drew Snider.

Midfielder Paul Rabil, has now earned the honor in five consecutive seasons, and continues to top the League in points earned. This season, he was the League’s second highest scorer, with 54 points, on 32 goals and 19 assists. He led the Boston Cannons in both points and goals again this season and rests at 300 career points.

Kevin Crowley, posted a League best, 55 points, and 38 goals. He boasts a .333 shot percentage and has posted at least one goal in all 14 games this season. Crowley has emerged as the player stop and has scored at least three points in 11 games this season. To add to his 2013 honors, he was named All-Star MVP, Brine Offensive Player of the Year, and Warrior MVP.

Tied with Crowley for 55 points on the season, Denver’s Chris Bocklet is the first of the attackmen to make the team. He leads the League in both points and goals, scoring 42, and has also scored five or more points in eight games this season. He only failed to put up points in one game this season, but played in all 14 contests for the undefeated Outlaws.

Charlotte’s captain, Matt Danowski has emerged as a true team leader for the young Hounds. Fourth in the League in scoring, Danowski has led his team to their first Championship Weekend. He grabbed 49 points on the season including 33 goals, and six two-pointers.

Brendan Mundorf has rounded off the Outlaws’ powerful attack, contributing 23 goals and 18 assists in 2013. His 41 points this season bring his career total to 347. In 2013 Mundorf made the All-Star team for his seventh consecutive season, this will be his fourth season earning the honor of All-Pro Team.

Cumulatively the 2013 MLL All-Pro Team attack and midfield have scored 298 points on the season and 195 goals. As a whole this team presents some of the MLL’s best talent, including both Schwartzman and Gurenlian who have broken single-season records at their respective positions.

Ten of the 13 players named to the All-ProTeam will compete at Championship Weekend presented by Smartlink on August 24 and 25 in Philadelphia.
