6th Annual We Believe Lacrosse Classic on August 3

Annapolis, MD, July 9th, 2013 – The 6th Annual We Believe Lacrosse Classic (WBLC) will be hosted by Archbishop Spalding High School and benefitting The We Believe Foundation in Severn, Maryland on August 3, 2013. Join us to watch 100 of the best Division I, II & III men’s and women’s lacrosse players helping raise funds for teens and young adults battling cancer. Each player will play in honor of their personal “Cancer Warrior” in front of hundreds of fans. WBLC’s 2012 attendance was over 1,000 supporters and we are looking to “Repeat Plus” in 2013.

Our 2013 guest speaker is Loyola University’s Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach, Charlie Toomey. WBLC is honored to have the 2012 NCAA Division 1 Men’s National Lacrosse Champion Greyhounds’ coach speaking of the power a team can have both on and off the field. Coach Toomey and his team had an emotional year off the field in 2013! A large part of that was keeping his team together, while they lost a treasured teammate, Adam Pomper, early in the year and then later in the year stood by teammate, Chris Layne, as he faced testicular cancer and then celebrated his victory off the field this summer.

The event also includes a mini We Believe Music Festival with local band Little Bird, New York artists Suns of Society and solo artist Sarah Castille. As our celebrity guest anthem singer, we have Nashville recording artist, Ashley Forrest, to honor our Cancer Warriors.

In addition, the event will showcase our “We Believe” Junior Boys and Girls teams in exciting championship games. Providing a state of the art warm up session for each junior team, will be the professional trainers of our proud partner, Results U: Home of The Parisi Speed School. They join national sponsors Champion Apparel, API Source and Safeway among many other local sponsors to support the We Believe Foundation’s mission of helping young cancer warriors.

NEW this year, is a “We Believe” Women College’s Championship game and a “We Believe” Masters Championship game. And of course, we are proud to bring back by popular demand a heart-warming exhibition game by Adaptive Lacrosse. This year there will be even more for the little ones, with fun games and prizes to win and as always, our moon bounce by AAA Moonbounce, Inc.

This year’s Lacrosse Classic marks the second time an Honorary Cancer Survivor will be actually playing in the college game. Alex Nieves was an integral part of Salisbury University’s lacrosse team when he was suddenly diagnosed with leukemia on December 19, 2010. His battle has been arduous but, Alex will step on to our field again completing a full year CANCER FREE! His younger brother, AJ, will be playing in the junior boy’s game, and his sister, Gabbie, will be playing in the NEW women’s game. This will be an entire family playing for a cause that has had a personal impact on their lives. The We Believe Foundation Inc.’s (WBF) mission is to be a resource that both raises awareness and provides financial assistance for teens and young adults battling cancer through survivorship. WBF was started by Matt Miller and his family when, at 17 years old, Matt was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Matt’s family created The We Believe Foundation to pass on what he’s received from friends and family to those not be as fortunate.

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
