Casey Powell Named Director of Lacrosse at St. Andrew’s (Fla.)

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Saint Andrew’s School is proud to announce that lacrosse legend Casey Powell has been hired as Director of Lacrosse Programs. In his role, Powell will assist Athletic Director David Ahern in supervision of all upper and middle school boys and girls lacrosse programs. He will also work closely with Interim Head Boys Lacrosse Coach RJ Dawson during the club and varsity seasons.

Upon hearing that Saint Andrew’s was engaging in a search for its nationally ranked lacrosse program, Powell’s agent contacted Headmaster Dr. Ann Marie Krejcarek and Ahern.

Ahern is quite impressed with Powell and what he will bring to Saint Andrew’s.
“Casey is a world champion lacrosse player, a dynamic leader and a great ambassador for the sport of lacrosse,” stated Ahern. “He is the all-time leading scorer in Major League Lacrosse history, 2010 National Lacrosse League MVP, and a former member of the US National Team. His resume is extensive and well-respected in the lacrosse world. We are very lucky to have him take the helm.”

Powell has coached and taught over 12,000 boys and girls at his summer camps and clinics throughout the United States as well as some International coaching in Japan, Australia, Mexico, England, Scotland, and Wales. Casey has also coached at Cortland State in New York.
“I’m excited about the prospect of coaching at Saint Andrew’s and helping their talented players take it to the next level,” said Casey Powell. “Staying in the Florida area and coaching the team here will allow me to broaden the lacrosse horizon for the students at Saint Andrew’s.”

Ahern said Powell will conclude his obligations with the Boston Blazers through the end of their season while simultaneously conducting his own duties as the Director of Lacrosse Programs for the Scots.

Meanwhile, Krejcarek is pleased to bring Powell’s leadership to the school campus.

“Casey Powell brings us over 20 years of great lacrosse knowledge, wisdom, and experience,” said Krejcarek. “He is one of the biggest names in the game, a true ‘Legend’, and he will be a strong fit for the Saint Andrew’s School community and a match to the Saint Andrew’s School mission.”

A graduate of Carthage Central High School in New York, Powell attended lacrosse powerhouse Syracuse University where he held the University’s scoring record, was a member of the 1995 NCAA National Championship team, and was a two-time National Player of the Year. Powell took his success to the next level as a gold medalist of the 1998 US World Championship team, MVP of the 1999 World Cup Team, Captain of the 2006 United States National Team, and MVP of the 2010 National Lacrosse League (NLL). In addition, he is the Major Lacrosse League’s (MLL) all-time leading scorer, where he was a four-time All-Star. Powell has played for several NLL and MLL professional lacrosse teams including the New York/Orlando Titans, Rochester Rattlers, Long Island Lizards, Rochester Knighthawks, Anaheim Storm, and has most recently signed with the Boston Blazers.
