Cornell Men’s Lacrosse To Face Virginia In Face-Off Classic

BALTIMORE, Md. – Bob Carpenter, Publisher of Inside Lacrosse Magazine, announced today that the Cornell men’s lacrosse team will take on Virginia in the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The game is part of a triple-header with the Big Red’s game slated to start at 1:30 p.m. Princeton will take on North Carolina in the early game (11:00 a.m.) with UMBC and Johns Hopkins scheduled to face-off in the late game (4:00 p.m.).

Now in its sixth year, the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic gives fans the chance to celebrate the start of the lacrosse season by placing many of the nation’s top-ranked teams in the same stadium on the same day. Four of the last five national champions have started their season in the Face-Off Classic (Johns Hopkins in 2007, Syracuse in 2008, Duke in 2010 and Virginia in 2011).

The game between Cornell and Virginia features a heavyweight battle of leading contenders for the 2012 national championship. The match-up will also showcase two performers destined to fight it out for national player of the year honors – senior attackmen Rob Pannell (Cornell) and Steele Stanwick (Virginia). In 2011 the Cavaliers experienced a rollercoaster season that culminated in the team’s fifth NCAA title. Included on that ride were wins over Cornell in the Face-Off Classic (11-9) and the NCAA Quarterfinals (13-9). The Big Red will be looking for a measure of revenge with a balanced lineup loaded with experience.

Tickets for the 2012 edition of the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic will go on sale Tuesday, November 15, at 11:00 a.m. All seating locations at M&T Bank Stadium will be reserved for these events. Fans are urged to make their plans early to be part of the action.

Ticket prices for the 2012 Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic are: $35 for Club Level seats; $22 for Lower Level reserved seats; $18 for groups of 10 or more; and $12 for groups of 100 or more. Parking can also be purchased in advance for $15.
