Danowski, Galloway, C. Bocklet Honored by MLL

BOSTON, Mass. – Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending July 7, 2012, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Charlotte Hounds attackman Matt Danowski was honored as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week while Rochester Rattlers goalkeeper John Galloway received the MLL Defensive Player of the Week award.

In addition, Denver Outlaws attackman Chris Bocklet was named as the recipient of the Cascade MLL Rookie of the Week award for the second time this season.

Named as the MLL Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career, Danowski led the Hounds to a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over the league-leading Chesapeake Bayhawks on Saturday night at American Legion Memorial Stadium, snapping the Bayhawks’ five-game win streak. Danowski, who earned Bud Light MLL Player of the Game honors, scored three of his game-high four goals in the fourth quarter as the Hounds overcame a 9-6 deficit in the third quarter to earn the victory. With 22 seconds left, he completed the comeback with a two-point goal past goalkeeper Kip Turner to give Charlotte a 13-12 advantage.

The MLL’s second-leading scorer with 34 points in nine games this season, Danowski ranks third on the Hounds with 14 goals while contributing a team-high three two-point goals and 17 assists.

Meanwhile, Galloway led a Rochester defense that helped the Rattlers earn a weekend sweep of the Long Island Lizards. He made 33 saves while allowing 21 goals in the two victories. In the Rattlers’ 13-8 victory over the Lizards on Friday night, he made a career-high 21 saves, including nine in the third quarter, as the Rattlers snapped Long Island’s five-game win streak. Galloway, who earned Bud Light MLL Player of the Game honors for the second time in his career on Friday night, helped Rochester post a 17-15 win at Shuart Stadium on Saturday night by making 12 saves.

Galloway, who has played in eight games for the Rattlers this season, ranks fifth in the MLL with a 13.56 goals against average while stopping 52.2 per cent of the shots he has faced. He is also tied for fourth in the MLL with 108 saves.

While leading the Denver Outlaws to a 17-13 victory over the Ohio Machine on July 4, Bocklet recorded his second “hat trick” of the season by scoring a season-high four goals with an assist as the Outlaws improved to 6-3 on the season. He scored three of his four goals in the second half as the Outlaws held off the Machine for the win.

Honored as the Bud Light MLL Player of the Game for the first time in his career, Bocklet has scored seven goals with two assists in two games this season.

The 2012 MLL season continues this week with a slate of five games, including a home-and-home series between the Machine and Hamilton Nationals. After opening the series on Friday night at Ron Joyce Stadium, the two teams will square off at Selby Stadium on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Lizards will host Boston while Charlotte visits Denver in the Outlaws’ last home game of the season. In addition, the Rattlers will welcome Chesapeake to Sahlen’s Stadium on Saturday night.
