DU Men’s Lacrosse to Hold Second Annual Fall Celebration Dinner

Pioneers will recognize last year’s ECAC Champs and Final Four squad, and welcome back past men’s lacrosse alums in the Second Annual DU Men’s Lacrosse Fall Celebration Dinner under head coach Bill Tierney

DENVER – The University of Denver men’s lacrosse program will hold its Second Annual DU Men’s Lacrosse Fall Celebration Dinner on Friday, Oct. 21 at The Inverness under head coach Bill Tierney. The banquet will serve to honor the 2011 ECAC Championship and Final Four Team.

“Last year’s celebration was beyond expectations,” Tierney said. “We honored an All-Decade Team and everyone had a great time, while growing tighter with others in the DU Lacrosse family. This year, we are thankful that we have even more to celebrate and we look forward to enjoying a wonderful evening.”

Some of the Pioneers’ accomplishments include, an undefeated ECAC regular season, an ECAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament run, which provided such highlights as the first NCAA Tournament win, the first NCAA Tournament game west of the Mississippi, a Quarterfinal win over Johns Hopkins and Denver’s first Final Four appearance. Many great individual achievements were attained as well, including four All-Americans, a scholar All-American and numerous All-ECAC and academic awards

The evening will begin with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. followed by a sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $125 per person with a special “Young Pioneer” price of $75 for Pioneers who graduated between 2007 and 2011.

Former Pioneer Devin Farrell will serve as the master of ceremonies during the evening’s festivities, which includes honoring the men who made the Denver Lacrosse program possible. The ‘Pioneers’ of Pioneer Lacrosse (men from the teams of the 60’s and 70’s) have been invited to join us at this great event.

“We want to celebrate the past by having our Alumni Game, honoring the founders of DU Lacrosse, and celebrating last season’s ECAC Championship and Final Four Team and its individual award winners,” Tierney said. “We want to celebrate the present by introducing the 2012 team and its captains, by releasing the 2012 schedule and by talking about our goals for the year. Finally, we’d like to celebrate the future by giving everyone the opportunity to help our program grow through meeting parents, players and friends of the program, and sharing ideas about continuing to make the University of Denver men’s lacrosse program great. We hope all will join us to celebrate the excitement of DU Lacrosse.”

Prior to the evenings’ events, a golf outing will take place at the Inverness Golf Course. Interested parties should contact associate head coach Matt Brown at [email protected]. Green Fees are $85 and spots are limited. On Saturday, Oct. 22, the annual Alumni vs. Alumni game will take place at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium at 10:30 a.m. Interested alumni should RSVP with Devin Farrell at [email protected].
