CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland senior defender Pat Frazier was named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after turning in an outstanding performance Saturday in the Greyhounds’ 8-6 victory over then-No. 14 Penn State University.

Frazier helped the Loyola defense force 22 Nittany Lions turnovers, 17 by virtue of Loyola caused turnovers. He had a career-best six ground balls and three caused turnovers in the game and was key in limiting the Nittany Lions to six goals, a week after the scored 15 in their season-opener.

In his primary one-on-one matchup, the team co-captain held Penn State’s Mike Sutton to just one goal on two shots. Last year, Sutton averaged 2.0 goals per game, and he had two goals and an assist in the Nittany Lion’s first game.

Frazier has nine ground balls and a team-high four caused turnovers through two games this year. He is in his third year as a starter, and he was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and a Face-Off Yearbook Honorable Mention All-American.

Two other Greyhounds were named to the Patriot League Weekly Honorable Mention. Midfielder Brian Sherlock had a game-high four points with two goals and two assists, while goalkeeper Pat McEnerney picked up his first collegiate win with eight saves between the pipes.

Loyola is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 18, with its first road contest of the year, a 12 noon tilt at Towson University.
