Furman’s Lingo, Friel Sweep @ASunWLax Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – Coming off two victories last week, Furman swept this week’s Atlantic Sun Women’s Lacrosse weekly awards with Meg Lingo and Maggie Friel taking home the honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Lingo earned her first career Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award after leading the Paladins offensively with seven goals combined. Five of her seven goals came against Fresno State, including three in a second half outburst that produced 12 total goals for the team. In both games combined, Lingo shot 87.5 percent and scored seven goals on just eight shots taken. Against Fresno State, Lingo also made the opposition pay on free-position opportunities as she converted 3-3 in those situations. She also added two ground balls and a draw control in the victories.

Friel provided stellar defense for the Paladins, earning her first Defensive Player of the Week honor. In the first game, Friel made seven saves against Campbell as the Paladins won 11-10 in overtime. Her save percentage was 41.2 for the game. She followed that up with five saves in the win over Fresno State. Her save percentage rose to 55.6 percent as Frield allowed only four goals in the contest. She lowered her season goals against average to 5.37, best among goalies who have played 100 minutes or more in the A-Sun. In its inaugural season, Furman is off to a 4-0 start and leads the A-Sun standings.
