Gonos Named Harvard Men’s Lacrosse Captain for 2013

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Chris Wojcik, the Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Lacrosse, has announced that senior defenseman Jason Gonos has been voted as the team’s captain for the 2013 season. Gonos is the 151st captain in program history and the first individual to serve as captain since Jeff Psaki ’00 in 2000.

“Jason is a young man of impeccable character and is an outstanding leader,” commented Wojcik. “The program is fortunate to have Jason as our Captain and I am looking forward to working closely with him over the course of the year.”

Gonos has played in 42 games in his Crimson career while making 37 starts. Last season he recorded career-highs with 33 groundballs and 14 caused turnovers. Gonos collected a career-high five groundballs in the season-opening win over Vermont, and later matched that total in a win over Quinnipiac. He also matched his career-high with three caused turnovers against Michigan.

In 2011, Gonos led the team with 13 caused turnovers and finished the season with 27 groundballs. He collected seven groundballs and caused four turnovers as a freshman.

The Harvard men’s lacrosse team will hold its first practice of the fall on Monday, Sept. 17. The Crimson will wrap up its fall schedule Oct. 20 when it faces both Army and St. John’s in West Point, N.Y.
