COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland men’s lacrosse student-athletes, coaches, alumni and friends of the program gathered for the 4th Annual Forever Young Walk/Run for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness on October 25.

The Forever Young Walk/Run is held in memory of Maria Young, mother of former Terrapin All-American Ryan Young, who battled pancreatic cancer for more than three years before succumbing to the disease on April 17, 2011.

The event raised more than $6,000 for the Lustgarten Foundation, which has a mission to advance the scientific and medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of pancreatic cancer and was a helpful resource to Maria Young during her fight with pancreatic cancer.

Nearly $4,000 were raised through online donations through the Lustgarten Foundation’s website and donations are still being accepted.

“This is always a special day and I want to thank everyone who came out and walked,” said Maryland head coach John Tillman. “Having all of the alums come back, especially having Ryan back, along with their families and friends of the program, to rally around this cause is great. Every year this event gets bigger and better and we are proud to support a great organization in the Lustgarten Foundation, which meant so much to Maria. I want to thank Kevin Conry, who put countless hours into organizing the event. I’d also like to thank the Alpha Phi sorority and the Maryland baseball team for their help and support.”

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
