Holy Cross Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Bryant In Season-Opener

The Lead: Kristie Voswinkel posted three goals and one assist for four points for the Bulldogs as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to Bryant, 9-6, in the season-opener for both teams at Bryant’s Turf Complex on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Senior captain Lissie Russert (Cincinnati, Ohio) had the first goal of the game from a free position shot at 21:59 in the first half.
Senior captain Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) followed Russert with a goal 32 seconds later from a free position shot to increase the Crusader lead to 2-0.
Sophomore Maddie Ward (Norwell, Mass.) also scored in the first half with an assist by junior Kate Martino (Summit, N.J.)
The Crusaders took a 3-1 lead to the half. Bryant outshot Holy Cross, 10-8 in the first half.
In the first half, junior goalie Katie Boyle (Devon, Pa.) had six saves for the Crusaders.
In the second half, Bryant outscored the Crusaders 8-3 for the 9-6 victory.
Ryan scored twice in the second half and sophomore Tess MacKay (Simsbury, Conn.) scored once all on free positions.
Holy Cross capitalized on five of its six free positions while Bryant capitalized on four of their seven free positions.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Bryant outshot Holy cross 21-19.
Boyle had seven saves compared to Santeramo’s one and Daja Andrew’s three.
Holy Cross had nine ground balls compared to Bryant’s 18.
The Crusaders had eight draw controls to the Bulldogs nine.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

Ryan now has 109 goals and 138 points in her collegiate career. She is 10th all-time in both.
Ryan has 155 draw controls, which makes her second all-time in draw controls in Holy Cross women’s lacrosse history.
Today was Ryan’s 16th hat-trick of her career.
Senior Sophia Agostinelli (Framingham, Mass.) has 45 career caused turnovers on defense, which is now eighth all time.
This was Boyle’s first collegiate start as goalie.
