Hopkins Blue Jay Gets Laid Out!

Greeley of Johns Hopkins gets taken off his feet by Virginia’s Lovejoy on Homewood field. Haven’t seen a hit like this in awhile. Matt comes from a fierce blood line. His older brother, Ben, played hockey and lacrosse at Dartmouth and is currently playing professionally with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Watch another clip. Lovejoy was called for illegal body check, 2 min non-releasable. Hopkins went on to upset UVA, 12-11. I have a feeling these teams will meet again in the NCAAs. Expect more hits in May.

[…] Cuse like that. Syracuse’s offense is unreal, so Cornell’s defense had to be top notch. My favorite hit so far this season was the one on Hopkins’ Greeley by Matt Lovejoy of UVA.  Lovejoy stopped that […]

I have a hard time with this play as mother of a Lax player who is also a ref. and my husband a ref….I know this is a physical game but as a former PE teacher myself he was playing the player and not the ball. To me it is clearly focused on taking out a player and not playing the ball. Hate to see this with people getting hurt when there was no need for that to happen

It wasn’t a penalty because he “played the man and not the ball” it was because he hit him high. wrong sport, in soccer you must play the ball. lacrosse you can hit anyone within 5 yards of the ball.

Too bad there was no video of Jay Card laying that pole from Harvard out, a side by side comparison would have been cool, heard that Card’s hit was nastier though.
