Lacrosse is Changing Lives in Harlem, NY: #SportsMatter

Join the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation in saving youth sports at Sportsmatter.org.

By 2020, an estimated 27% of public high schools in the United States will not have any sports. That’s why Dick’s and the Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation have made a $25 million multi-year commitment to youth sports programs like Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

“AT DICK’S SPORTING GOODS AND THE DICK’S SPORTING GOODS FOUNDATION, WE BELIEVE SPORTS MATTER BECAUSE PARTICIPATION IN SPORTS MAKES PEOPLE BETTER.”

Sports increase confidence and motivate kids to stay in the classroom and aim for higher education. They help build character and teach life lessons that extend well beyond the playing field.

But youth sports are in trouble. Billions in funding has been cut from school sports programs in recent years, and it’s estimated that more than a quarter of U.S. public high schools will not have ANY sports programs by 2020.

That’s why we’ve made it the mission of our Foundation to make a lasting impact in our community by supporting programs that inspire and enable sports participation. Through our Sports Matter program, we’re giving young athletes opportunities to play.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
