Army Voted 20th in USILA Preseason Coaches’ Poll

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association came out with its preseason coaches’ poll and the Army lacrosse team was picked 20th in the nation, it was announced today.

The Black Knights earned 40 votes in the poll and were joined by Patriot League members Loyola and Lehigh. The Greyhounds are the highest ranked conference school at No. 7, while the Mountain Hawks come in at No. 18.

The top spot in the poll went to Denver, followed by Notre Dame in the second spot. Duke, Syracuse and Johns Hopkins round out the top five in the poll. Army will play the Irish and Orange this season with the game against Notre Dame coming on May 2 at Michie Stadium. The Black Knights will travel to the Carrier Dome on Feb. 22 to take on Syracuse.

The USILA Coaches’ Poll will come out each week early afternoon on Mondays throughout the season. The first in-season poll will be Feb. 16 and run each Monday thereafter.

Army has begun its regular practice schedule last week in preparation for the season opener. The Black Knights also hosted its annual youth clinic on Sunday at Foley Athletic Center and the team saw 400-plus young lacrosse athletes show up to learn the game and get pointers from the players.

The season starts for the Black Knights on Feb. 7 at Massachusetts and the home opener at Michie Stadium is the following Monday against VMI. Season and single-game tickets are now on sale for all home games. The Black Knights play a total of six regular-season games at home with four Patriot League matchups.
